With Olds gone....

Why not take thier styling ques and transfer them to Chevy? I think the current Olds cars look great...especially the interiors...I know it would be kind of half-assed...but I would love to see Chevy with a nice clean upscale image with out costing alot. As they call it in the business...percieved quality

I had heard that the Alero might be incorporated n to Chevy's stable....?

I like Olds' styling, but why transfer car designs that obviously aren't selling from one division to another? http://web.camaross.com/bb/confused.gif

I feel the same way.

While Olds' styling would probably be more widely accepted with a bowtie on the front, I don't think that ANYTHING from Olds should move to another division. If they do make a move, make it like the upcoming discontinuation of Bravada, and creation of Buick Rainier... make it looks different and give it a different name.

If Alero moves, CALL IT SOMETHING ELSE.

The remaining Chevy Geo's are still a joke. Who wants a "Chevy Tracker" anyway?!

All that being said... I loved Olds' moves circa 1995+ with the launch of Aurora. I thought it made them a very interesting division... much better than Buick, but the sales just weren't there. http://web.camaross.com/bb/frown.gif

I agree, though I still don't agree with Olds being discontinued while GM adds Hummer to their line & Saturn could have just as easily been sold with Olds nameplates. Holdens could have even been brought over under Olds' nameplate.

IMO, Oldsmobile had one problem common to ALL GM divisions. A lack of good advertising.

Go watch a Honda ad, or a Toyota Celica Ad. They're funny, (Well, not very, but at least have a current style) and actually show the car. More to the application of Olds, go watch a BMW ad, or an Infiniti ad. The commercials make the car look good, instead of just showing the car on a television.

I mean, how can Chevy seriously expect to sell cars with "Chevrolet: We'll be there."??

Ya, they really haven't had a winner, since "The Heartbeat of America"...

Actually, maybe they should bring that back.

The "We'll be there" slogan obviously plays off the new "reliable" angle of Chevy. I laugh at it though, I mean go to the Camaro page at chevy.com. Camaro. We'll be there. http://web.camaross.com/bb/redface.gif

Oldsmobile had a couple of interesting cars (such as Aurora, Riviera), but they suffered from the same thing from which most american cars suffer: bulk-, warehouse-packaged appearance, components as if they were chiseled, a lack of refinement, a lack of attention to detail.

HuJass 07-01-2002 03:54 PM

MuckZ,
The Riviera was/is a Buick.

Just "was." Riviera production ended in '99.

HuJass 07-04-2002 11:02 PM

Eric,
I know they don't make them anymore. I was just trying to cover the "tense" thing. If you see a Riviera parked in a lot, you wouldn't say "that was a Buick Riviera", you'd say "that IS a Buick Riviera". See where I'm coming from?

Eric77TA 07-04-2002 11:05 PM

Gotcha. Misinterpreted your context. Same thing happened to Riv as happened to GP - as we were discussing on the other post.
