Unless the 2005 SRT-4 goes up to $21,995, I think Chevrolet should have kept the Cobalt SS to under the SRT-4 price by a few $100.
Will the V6 Camaro be quicker?

I think after its out for a while to compare though it will be agreeable that the Cobalt is just genrelly a nicer car, and when your paying 20k anyway whats 1000, for something higher quality. And much less hideous.
Although I worry about the SS performance, and being able to keep up with what else is on the market. Im awaiting numbers. One advantage I think they will have is that the SRT-4 is already running pretty serious boost, what is it 16 lbs? One of the advantages of a forced induction car is just being able to add more boost from the factory and add realatively easy hp. Runnig such high stock boost you cant really do that very much. However you will be able to do it a little more with the SS Cobalt.
Re: Official Cobalt pricing.
I agree with Darth that you'll be getting a much nicer car. The SRT4 its a great performance/dollar machine, most likey the best out today in that catagory, but the interior doesnt appear to be nearly as nice as the Cobalt's will be. This should be a given due to the age of the Neon vs. the Cobalt. When the new Neon comes out in 2 years (?) it'll be a much better comparison.
And you should be able to get out the door under $20k for an SS with rebates and sweet talking after the initial rush dies down.

Re: Official Cobalt pricing.
I read that the estimated 1/4 time for the ss s/c is like 14.9 . I'm pretty dissappointed, 1000 bucks more than the srt-4 and WAY slower. I don't understand why they didn't turbo it. I've read of 1000hp turbo ecotec motors?? OH WELL they do look pretty good though and i guess you can get intake exhaust and smaller pulley for them

Also, I thought the Neon was going out of production in two years? Or going to be given a new name or something?

I doubt they could have made a production 1000hp ecotec and still meet emissions and all that.

haha 04 SRT-4's are capable of high 13's stock, 1 sec in the 1/4 is a pretty good margin. Also, gm had built ecotecs with that much power. I thought they could have at least produced one with a little more than 205 hp. Hell, honda 2.2l vtec preludes made 195hp back in 1993 (NA)

240hp stock would have been nice, But 205hp from a 2.2 ecotec is nice, blown or not. Anyways more hp is just a pulley swap away. GM should have used Saabs expertise in turbocharging the ecotec (i'm sure Saab will get a turbo version. With a nice turbo, they could have put out more hp with less boost.
Re: Official Cobalt pricing.
Yeah, I had a prelude and they are very nice cars had 160tq too. The good thing about the ecotec is a lot of the internals are forged. It should hold up to some pretty good boost (too bad that will get you to stock srt-4 performance, and it's a 4 door). Anyone know how much stock boost is for the Cobalt?
