I think he means 20 X 0 = 0. I didn't get it for a sec either. But, all signs point to them getting something, possibly on more than one occasion, despite the lack of votes.

Canada has to care. Lots of jobs at stake under GM and other manufacturers

You know I don't know how much more irony I can stand:

Canada caring more for the American Automobile industry than Americans.

Bush not lifting a finger to help the auto industry in 8 years (in fact, at times undermining them), now bailing them out at the last moment.

The Democrats essentially steamrolling over the enviromentalists to save the auto industry while republicans are being stuck (perhaps unfairly) by a small powerful & vocal detachement that is all but pushing the US auto industry over the cliff, economic disaster let alone whiping out the US manufacturing base be damned.

I've already spent most all of this week reading posts from people who believe treehuggers, liberals, and safety ***** are destroying the automobile industry, and yet they are saying don't give the auto industry any money effectively killing the US auto industry.

The funny thing is these folks STILL don't see the irony of what they are saying.

Boy.... what a week.

In computer languages, the * character is used for multiplication.

Of course, it should have been .20 * 0. Or 20% of 0 in more conventional notiation

We also can "afford" to care. We have had a decades worth of stable econmics, job growth and government surplus. I'm glad to see the 3.3 billion was offered quickly and with little to no hassles from opposition parties. Having said that I believe that the prosperity we've enjoyed is partially due to the auto sector.

Sadly unless the US loans are approved ours wont be given out either. The loans need to be given out in concert or there's no point.

and multiply that again by 0.82 for the exchange rate... still results in zero though

The population in Canada is 30 million compared to 300 million of the US. The US can lose potentially 3 million jobs, so that is 1 job for every 100 people.

In Canada, there are 520,000 jobs at stake. That is roughly 1 job for 60 people. We have higher stakes, that's for sure.

Not to mention that majority of those jobs are in Ontario, which is extremely susceptible to economic slowdowns, and hasn't been doing all that healthily already.
