The next big craze: Ford's new Mustang
The next big craze: Ford's new Mustang
On another thread it was posted that Ford has 50,000 orders waiting. Now, Ford has been flooded with requests for Mustang Brochures (200,000 to be exact) from individuals willing to supply personal information.

Some notable extremes:
"...although the Mustang doesn't go on sale until October and pricing hasn't been finalized, dealers have been swamped with deposits and orders."
"I've got 12 sold orders already," says dealer Frank Rodriguez of Greenway Ford in Orlando. "There is not a day that goes by without someone visiting our Web site or showroom asking about it."
"At invitation-only events where Ford offers test drives of its new Five Hundred sedan, new Freestyle crossover-utility vehicle and the Mustang, people are waiting in line up to two hours to drive the Mustang.
"We had one gentleman who flew to Detroit from Knoxville, drove the Mustang and flew back home," says Paul Russell, Mustang marketing manager."
"Quite frankly, we haven't had a lot of product that has drawn the attention of a new generation of buyers," Russell says. "Now, we get young people stopping us to take pictures of the car, and their eyes light up when we tell them you can get one for about $20,000."
...and this is before the advertizing blitz starts!

guionM- You know those new Mustangs are going to be a dime-a-dozen out here in Southern California (if not the whole country). While I do think the new Stang is a nice ride I don't think I will feel that way in a year or so after I seen 20 of them on my way back and forth to work everyday.
Im sure if I go cruising down PCH on a Sunday I will most likely think I'm in the middle of some sort of Ford Mustang parade.

That's the ONLY reason I'm not considering one. I got to get up close & personal with one at Pebble Beach last month, and I was sold. But I knew I'd see one every 50 feet within a month.

Well, they may be everywhere, but they're still around. This isn't a flame, it's a wake up call. Camaro must appeal to more than 40,000 people a year if it's going to stick around for awhile. Also, you can still personalize a Mustang to make it unique. There's a huge aftermarket for modifications, including making your ride look different. One good thing about what Ford is doing this time around is making a distinct visible difference between the V6 and V8 models.

GM better get their performance coupe out ASAP if they want to have any of the market. The only thing i can hope for is that they will show it during 2005's auto show season and steal some of the mustangs heat. I know that probly wont happen but i would say it is very important especially considering GM now has the power to produce a world class car in 2 years if they stop arguing and just do it. They cant make any money arguing about what to do and they probably lose potential sales by waiting to long. Example being the solstice. Although im sure it is a very nice car, it has gotten rid of some of the buzz when GM couldnt decide what to do with it for 2 years after its debut.
(sorry for the toilet language but...) procrastination is like ************, its nice until u realise your F***ing yourself

Boss 302
not to mention Steeda, Roush, Saleen and the like.
Re: The next big craze: Ford's new Mustang
It's funny how history can repeat itself. In the 60's, ford introduced the mustang, sold 500 000 of them in the first year. GM saw this, and frantically put together the camaro in about 2 years. It's just like the old saying goes, those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

I think I like the looks of the SN95 better, THe new stang just doesn't do it for me. too retro and not agressive enogh?
I got a feeling the S197 will be the new flavor of the week then drop off hard, just like the Beetle and T-bird

Re: The next big craze: Ford's new Mustang
Who cares? Im not buying one. When everyone and there grandmother has one, then the uglyness comes out. Just like every pouplar car, they get real ugly real fast when you see them ever 10 ft.
With the GTO at 27k, I dont see any need to even go to a Ford dealership. Same performance with a TON more to offer. Why bother getting an already outdated Mustang when you can have a top of the line GTO for the same price?

Re: The next big craze: Ford's new Mustang
actually, gm might not be hurt as much by waiting for the camaro to come out
although coming out soon would definately help to steal sales, the camaro would be jumped all over (given good styling, etc.) once the mustang craze fell off
