Is the 2.4L auto only? or can you get a manual now?

Re: New Features and Changes for 2006 Cobalt's

Why is everyone sayin the SS name is being brought down more. Seriously Chevy's mainstream and high production preformance model is SS. Dodge put out some crappy preformance with some of their R/T badging in years past. I believe that about every performance model Chevy has now fits the bill and is worthy of the SS name and in many cases faster than some of the old SS cars.

BTW the 2.4 SS Cobalt has 174hp it probally outclasses everything in its price range. I want a Coupe with a manual in Lazer Blue please

Other than the supercharged Cobalt. THe 2.4L SS will be the fastest most powerful compact that Chevrolet has ever built.

Re: New Features and Changes for 2006 Cobalt's

To me, SS hasn't always just been about the best in the Chevy lineup, but being one of the best of the class it is in. It maybe the fastest economy car that Chevy has ever built, but it seems to me that 170 in that segment is becoming the requirement of most of the sporty econoboxes. I have to agree with Pandamonkey, I would like an SS with some grunt.

Comparing SS now to SS then isn't fair. Technology has improved. SS used to stand for a stand out model. I think SS is just getting too watered down. So now, when you see an SS, you have to think, "Does that car actually perform well?, Should I be impressed by that SS?" Maybe that's just me though.

I'm sure its a nice little car....if you're into nice little cars. I'm sure its a relatively fast n/a nice little car....if you're into nice little cars.

To each their own - but no thanks.

Yes, because a '64 Impala SS with a 283/powerglide combo "used to stand for a stand out model."

Lets get real here gentelmen. Some of you really need to get a clue. I'm with Charlie on this one...I look forward to seeing/driving an '06 non-supercharged SS. I think it is the only thing that would keep me from my G6 GTP or MC SS. If this car is a standout on the cheap, I might consider it. The supercharged SS is a little too hardcore for me for a daily driver.

Re: New Features and Changes for 2006 Cobalt's

I think the non-supercharged SS is a great idea. A nice stopgap in between the large hp gap in the Cobalt lineup.

Its obvious most people here wouldnt like this car. Its FWD, n/a 4 banger. Most people here need RWD at least v6, prefer v8. However, out in the real world, I'm sure this car will be a hit. Esp for the people that want a powerful little car but dont like the supercharged SS's price tag or are scared off by forced induction (i.e. parents that dont know anything about cars)
