Cool New Beetles are finally on the road. Like them?

I finally saw one in the flesh, but I couldn't get a picture. It had the old style wheels which was actually pretty cool. They start for under $20k, base model of course. The superbowl ad was pretty good (the one with the fat dog). The picture below shows the wheels on the one I saw.

Here are some other pictures:

Better than the old one. VW did a good job updating a retro vehicle.

VW polished a turd as best they could, but in the end. It's just a shiny turd.

i really dig the lower grill that stretches across the length of the car on all the new VWs. don't think i would own one though.

Kind of like Chevy did with the Aveo into the Sonic...

I have never been a fan of the car. Don't see anything special in this one that would make me change my mind.

It's not my cup of tea, but it's certainly not a "turd".

It certainly looks better than the last one, which I found well too cartoonish.

It takes all types of cars to make the world go 'round, and I can see why some people might like it. The new one looks good compared to the last one.

But again, it's not something I'd choose to drive.

Not something that I would own, but the new car looks WAYYY better than the last generation.

I think it looks damn good, and 1000x better than the first "New Beetle". It also looks more true to the original. The first retro Beetle was sort of a cartoonish take on the original; this one actually looks similar in profile, and much more aggressive.

You mean the New New Beetle.

I think they made it look a bit more masculine. That is relative of course. The commercial they had with the guy driving around getting high fives from everyone was quite ironic.

Looks pretty much identical to the last one to me, except that they stretched the cabin/roof out a foot or so...

That is about it. In profile it is slightly more like a classic Beetle and less like a big bubble.

Much better than the last one, still don't think I want one. I own a Mini, so I'm not biased against the 'type'. If they made one truly like the original with a rear(not-mid) engine, then I'd definitely want one. Like a 911-lite

I think if you were to park a new one nose to tail with an old one, then snap a picture of the two cars from the side, you'd see how different the 2 cars are.
