Anyway..., nice prices.

Ah, the Shaker 1000. It has two 500 watt subwoofers in the trunk 6 disc in dash CD player with MP3 support. 9 total speakers. Now that's a factory stereo!!!

Yeah, must be nice. I, personally, would never pay 1300 for a car stereo... :blah:

That's beside the point here, though. I'm sure the prices will attract a lot of buyers to Ford dealerships.

Re: Mustang prices are out!

I wouldn't pay $1300 either, that's sticker price. I'd pay less

Re: Mustang prices are out!

I paid $700 just for my headunit (CD player). Long live Nakamichi, ahh sound quality at its finest. $1300 aint bad for what you get.

So 25k for a base GT, ill have to get some time and outfit one out to see if my 28-29k was right on....

Re: Mustang prices are out!

GT Coupe Delux-$24370 (whats the GT Coupe Premium?$25705)
destination-$625
5-speed auto-$995
17" wheels-$195
leather sport buckets-$695
interior upgrade package-$450
required color accent package-$175
anti-theft-$255
front seat side airbags-$370 (not sure if 05' GTO has this?)
shaker 500 stereo-$665 (again hard to compare)

Total: $28795
Total minus side airbags and stereo: $27760
These are the options to a GT that I think make it close to a GTO.

This seams about right on with what most of us thought. About $4000-5000 less than what the 05' GTO is rumored to list at roughly $33k.

Not a bad price, but I have to say that I'm not sure its such the bargain it is being made out to be.

Styling aside, which is a big big part I know, you save $4000-5000 and get about 100 less horsepower, no independent rear, and no chance for a 6-speed (although I was comparing autos). I think both cars are a good buy, but wouldnt you spend the extra couple grand and finance a little longer if these cars were called Model A and Model B?

Re: Mustang prices are out!

damn thats cheap. Canadain prices are $32XXX for the GT and $23XXX for the V6. Hella of a deal for an all new platform that promises to be alot better then the SN95.

The Premium package comes with some of these things standard or at a lower price. Usually leather, wheels, stereo upgrades with a discount. I'm not sure what's standard on the Premium though. I'm waiting for Ford's website to be updated so I can build online (just easier that way).

Getting the Premium package should reduce this estimate a little since some of those options will be discounted as a package.

I think you're going to be real surprised how well this car handles. There's no doubt in my mind it will do better than the GTO as long as it comes with a decent set of tires. And 100 HP can be made up easily with $4000 Plus, most GT buyers looking to race (other than bracket) won't get the auto and that's another $1000 off the sticker price. Only 87 octane too .20c x 16 = $3.20 saved every tank of gas

Re: Mustang prices are out!

Ahh, but the GTO gets better gas mileage, ESPECIALLY if we are talking manual to manual. Yes, $4000 is plenty to play with, but I bet it would cost about that much to have a IRS custom installed in it to have the every day ride comfort that the GTO has.

No doubt in your mind it will handle better than a GTO? Not even a little? I expect the two will be pretty darn close actually. Especially if the 18" wheel option ever becomes a reality. I really hope it does. I think thats one of the things the GTO is missing, those wheels are pretty ugly. The new brakes should help the GTO's portly weight hunker down and the 100hp is hard to make up on an average road course. I expect track times would be very competetive assuming that track has some decent straight aways. I really have no idea about slalom times, as they are a hard thing to predict for the Mustangs redesign. I am guessing skid pad numbers will be very comparable with the GTO maybe edging out the GT because of the GT's 235 tires.

I say as long as the handling between the two is about the same, for $4000 more you get better ride quality and 100hp. We will assume interior quality, paint, and fit and finish are equal until we see otherwise.

I guess the GTO and GT thing is kind of getting to the point of beating the preverbial dead horse, but I just dont see the great attraction when you can have a GTO for $4000 more. But as Tim McGraw says, "Thats just meeeeee, the only way I know to be..."

Re: Mustang prices are out!

I'd get the two cars for different reasons really, and i think most will as well. Given their differences in style, attitude, price, etc..... each will attract its own group of buyers. I tend to not put as much importance on luxury, etc... and so i'd personally opt for the GT (or new z28) given its cheaper price. Even with todays GTO being more a car than the current Cobra, i'd still opt for the not-as-refined cobra without hesitation. That's because i don't see the two cars as alike in nature, attitude, etc...

4k may not sound like much, but it is to many. That can easily sway decisions. Asking why buy a loaded GT when 4k more can get you a GTO is like asking why anyone would buy a GT when they could upgrade to the Cobra with its really potent S/c 4.6 Dohc, better suspension with IRS, better brakes, 6spd, every option standard, etc.... for around 4-6k more than a loaded GT coupe. Or even better, why buy a loaded v6, when 3k more can get you into a decently equipped GT? People have their reasons i guess.
