Sure, I'll settle for a Monte Camarlo.

Monte Camarlo?
Monte Camarlo?
Since this seems to be the only site on the internet without TED's list, I'll assume it's politically correct to discuss this.
As we saw on the "list", the "Camaro" Zeta coupe is planned for CY '08 and it's sister Chevy coupe, the Monte Carlo, for a year later.
I'm pretty sure that they're both the same size.
Are you willing to wait another 4 years for a Monte Camarlo......or do you insist on a real Camaro.

Re: Monte Camarlo?
What I want to know Z284ever, is this list legit and real?
If so, I would believe at this point it would be real difficult for Camaro to come out on a different platform. But the auto industry is prone to turn things around on a dime so who knows......
If the Camaro does come out on Zeta, how difficult would it be for GM to change it up so it looks completely different from the Monte in looks, size, and weight?

They should call it Cobalt EXT.
Re: Monte Camarlo?
Call it a CHEVELLE.........that's what it seems like it will be.
I'd rather wait or not get a Camaro at all if it turns out to NOT be a legitimate Camaro.
Calling it Chevelle, would open up numerous variants...i.e. El Camino, Stationwagon, 2 door, 4 door, etc...
Get it right or go home.......

The Zeta Monte Carlo is Segment Code D, as are the Pontiac Grand Prix and Chevy Impala, all long wb Zetas.
I know you hate the idea of a Zeta Camaro, and I happen to agree that I'd rather see some sort of Beta version myself, however, before we pass judgement on the car, can we wait a couple years to see what the darn thing is going to look like first?

Nothing smaller.
My impressions of the current state of affairs is:
Sizewise....... MonteCarlo = Camaro.
But I don't think it's too late to let our voices be heard.

No we can't. By then it'll be too late.

Here's how I some it up:
Sports coupes = Camaro & GTO
Sedans = Monte Carlo, Impala & Grandprix
Gunboats = Velite & Roadmaster
I think when we see what the 2008 GTO looks like, we'll have a general idea on what the Camaro will look like (of course it'll be out a year later).
Unfortunately that means no 2007CY Camaro.
Re: Monte Camarlo?
I believe the long rumored "small" Zeta was nothing but vaporware.
If it existed, Holden would have built the Torana concept off of it.
Let me also leave you with a chilling thought (chilling for me anyway).....
Consider a Camaro, based off of the GTO's blackmetal, but actually slightly larger than GTO.

The Monte will obviously be different from the Camaro.
The Velite concept we saw was a 'bigger' Zeta and we have heard about how flexible Zeta is.
So why not just wait to see what happens before you start bashing it from every angle?
Yea I know you want the next Camaro to be the size of a Mini, but not all of us here do.

That is why your concept of "Camaro-sized" is tough to assimilate. What you are meaning to say is that you want a 1st-Gen sized Camaro....and that would be preferable to me too. I'm going to have some confidence that the caretakers of the Camaro name and the next car itself know what will work best for the next car. They've done the market research, they've most certainly got input from Camaro enthusiasts like you and I (they'd be dumb as fence post if they haven't).....
Re: Monte Camarlo?
Who's to say that MC won't end up being a 4 door? Wasn't guy hinting at that a couple months ago?
I think its suicide to issue two rear drive 2 door coupes from the same division, the market's just not there for it.
You can differentiate them with sheetmetal and facias, limit MC to a high-feature V6, etc. etc. etc. but I think its a bad business decision.
however, if MC is a 4 door car (I know it breaks with MC heritage to do so, but if SUV's are the new family car, maybe 4 doors is the new coupe) and a v8 is available, this could usher in a huge new performance era for GM.
Imagine a performance lineup of rear drive cars with V8s available like this:
Vette
CTS-v
GTO
Camaro
MC
Impala
A Buick model...
Grand Prix?
That would be a HUGE boon for the aftermarket as basically all performance parts would be interchangeable among the Zeta cars.
