IS the LS7 GTO Judge/whatever a sure thing?
IS the LS7 GTO Judge/whatever a sure thing?
The '07 Cobra just took a big a dive on my planned to own list with the whole NA5.4/weight reduction idea.
So when does the 500hp LS7 Judge come out?

Re: IS the LS7 GTO Judge/whatever a sure thing?
Just curious...
Why is the next Cobra not attractive with a NA 5.4l and less weight? The thing is a tank with the current weight.
With that said, I'd go with the LS7 GTO if it was produced

It seams like a lot of people would rather have a 3600lbs. 390-415HP tank than a 450HP 3300-3400lbs. Cobra.
One of my friends has an '03 Cobra and said he won't get a new one even if it is 200lbs. lighter and 450HP n/a. He said he would rather have a weaker S/C V8

Re: IS the LS7 GTO Judge/whatever a sure thing?
I doubt we'll see an Ls7 powered GTO. 400hp ls2 is more than good enough for the general public given the GTO's 33k sticker. They probably won't offer an ls7 much for the same reason that they never offered the Ls6 in the cheaper F-bods. These kind of motors are usually limited to the pricey upscale models like z06 and CTS-V.
Cobra with weight reduction and a 450hp N/A 5.4 would be sweet. I too would prefer the potential of blown/forged 4.6, but will take a lighter Cobra with more stock power any day of the week assuming i don't plan on making 700-1000hp.

Lets say they only build 2000, or even fewer, units with the LS7. it doesnt take a rocket scientist to figure out that a 500 hp car is going to get public attention. look at cars like the GT[40], dodge viper, dodge srt10... etc. do you see those on the road everday? absolutely not. do they build image for ford and dodge? im not sure where else a good image (good as in 'cool') would come from.
All that is besides the fact that just about everyone who knows the smallest bit of history about the GTO is expecting a Judge. whether or not it turns out to just an appearance package or a complete performance + appearance package is another thing. but im sure most people, regardless of GTO's history, are hoping for the latter.

LS7 is going to be a special handmade engine, much like SVT's powerplants. The cars this engine is going in are going to be expensive, highend cars.
The ONLY cars scheduled to get this engine is the CTS-V and the Z06.
As for the GTO "Judge", to date it's just wishful thinking.

the idea of an ls7 gto is just absurd
why pay so much for a z06 (worth the price imo) if you can just get the same engine in a car that would tally abuot 35-40 grand or whatever?

The SC 4V 4.6 is weaker than an NA 5.4? That's news to me. Guess torque curves don't mean squat. And the fact that you can get 500hp/500lb-ft for about $800 in mods and then go run mid 11s all day long. Oh yeah gimme that dressed up truck motor instead.

500HP for $800+ is the whole reason my friend now will not be trading his '03 in.
Re: IS the LS7 GTO Judge/whatever a sure thing?
Honestly, if GM could figure out a snazzy way to inexpensively certify powertrains from platform to platform they'd be in the catbird seat.
Specifically, why CAN'T an LS7 end up in the GTO/CTSv/Z06/Zeta/Silverado SS/SSR???
Now, you have to keep differentiation between the Corvette and the rest of that mob, but the simple differences in weight between the vehicles will do that for you.
You break the "Corvette Rule" with these cars vs. the base Corvette (unless the base engine moves up... which I think it will), but so what?
XLRv and STSv oughta get blown Northstars...
