LS2 Solstice

I know many of you have already seen this http://www.autoweek.com/article.cms?articleId=103737

It's the Mallett 400HP LS2 Pontiac Solstice, and even though $18,000 worth of upgrades is a lot of cash ($37,995 total) I still think the car is worth it compared to what is on the market for roadsters from the Honda s2000, BMW Z4, Chrysler Crossfire and SRT-6 and even Chevrolet Corvette.

I thought I'd add a poll to make this thread more fun too.

Solstice.

Please put the Solstice/Sky designers on EVERYTHING GM does.

The Solstice, sitting next to a new C6, makes the C6 look downright cheap. It simply looks like a more expensive car.

If it had a decent engine in it, I would have one today.

I would not pay that pricetag for a Solstice.

I would buy the Corvette first (voted for it) if I were buying a "toy car"...

I would buy the GTO (like I did in 'real life') if I were buying a daily driver.

Talk to the Guys at Mallett :)

Or I guess you will have the wait for the Turbo DI Solstice GXP if you want to spend less money.

Is that because you know what it cost with a 4 cyl.? In a way that is how I feel. But I think if the base 2.4L Solstice never came out and GM went right for a mid $30K's LS2 version I'd pick the Solstice. In real life a used Z51 C6 would be my pic, but this is a fantasy poll so I wne the the Soltice that only 99 other people will own.

Pretty much... I just think it's way too much of a bump from the current Solstice in pricetag.

That, and I really don't think I'd like such a tiny car (personal preference, plus I am 6'3")... and finally... a Corvette is, well, a Corvette !!

Re: LS2 Solstice

I would pay maybe 30k for an Ls2 Solstice, but nowhere near 38k. Keep in mind, 38k is with the bare/base price (base price of solstice w/o options and with the base conversion w/o option). You still don't have A/c. If you toss in Pontiac and Mallett options, you'll have a solstice that costs as much as a c6 but that is nowhere near as good a car. And between the two, the c6 is the obvious no-brainer.

Nearly double the price for only an engine, clutch, shocks, brake line/pad, shifter, and minor cosmetic upgrades? Again, no thanks. You don't even get the corvette's 6spd or anything (make do with solstice's 5). That's a whole lot of $$$$ for not that much upgrade/car.

About that article, where do they get their weight figures from? They talk about how the Ls2 solstice is 500lbs lighter than the c6 and list the Ls2 Solstice's weight at 3,010lbs. The Ls2 c6 convertible weighs 3,199lbs. A 189lb difference. Where'd the 500lb difference in curb weight come from??

Re: LS2 Solstice

went with the GTO just for the practicality of it. i had a chance to buy a Vette before and passed for my 4th gen. never know when i'm gonna need the extra space, which has come in handy.

funny how no one voted for the SSR.

I still hate the front end on those cars.

I'll take an LS2 powered Sky tho.

Voted for the C6.

Let's see if the Solstice stays around for 50+ years.

GTO. For the price I'd need more than just a one trick pony. 4 seats when I need them and a passable trunk. I can't ignore the price either.

Mallet is an awesome car though. It definitely has a place on a limited production scale.

I voted C6 but this made me think of something that deserves a new thread.
