I don't think that picture is correct. The very last Camaro was in fact a red t-topped car but it was a Z28. The one in the picture is an SS.

I was at the auction, helping Scott and met the guy who bought the car....nice guy around my age and it was exciting! The car sold for $71,500.00 and all but the cost of right-off to GM was donated to a charity, S.A.V.E..
It was a fully loaded t-topped Z/28...red.
Scott will be posting pictures of the last 3 f-bodies coming down the assembly line soon......sad pictures indeed......nothing but an empty line behind them...

Actually the car auctioned off was the second to last Camaro (3rd to last F-body).
The last Camaro was in fact a red six-speed SS convertible that Chevy is keeping for themselves.
While the car auctioned off was the last car publicly sold, it wasn't the last camaro.

The last car off the line was a Bright Rally Red Z28 Convertible - and it will go into the Chevy Historic Collection so that people for years to come can enjoy this Legend. The next to last car was a matching Trans Am Convertible-also going into the Pontiac Historic Collection.
The SS's are first shipped to SLP and then back to Ste. Therese....so it would have been impossible for it to have been an SS and be the last car built.

Yeah, I know that, and I thought that was odd when I first read it too. I should've questioned it myself before posting missinformation.
It just goes to show, you can't trust anything you read on the internet.

But actually, the car on display was a stand in... the ACTUAL last saleable Camaro that the guy bought is being shipped to Detroit for delivery preparation.
Where do I get this info?
From Red Planet himself... an exerpt from an email from him:
A "stand-in" Red Z28 was on a center turntable -- surrounded by the 1982
Indy 500 Pace car, the 1993 Indy Pace Car, the 1996 Brickyard 400 Pace Car,
and both 35th Anniversary coupe and convertible Brickyard 400 'lap'
cars....additionally, the Einoder Family of Orland Park, IL placed their
1967 Baldwin-Motion 427 Camaro and 1969 Z28 in the Display. I say
"stand-in" because the actual car is being shipped to Detroit where we will
dealer prep and detail it -- and then present it to Mr. Gembinski in the
coming weeks.
