Jon Moss retires.
 

After 38 years at GM, Jon Moss is calling it a day.:(

This is almost as sad of hearing about John Ligenfelters passing! A sad day for GM.

The performance world owes much to this man.

I just hope I've still got a chance of getting his signature on my car someday.

Where do I apply for his old job?

The line forms behind me.:D


I'm really going to miss seeing what he puts in GM's toybox.

Hopefully the guy that replaces him is a just as much a car guy too. Guys like him are far and few.

maybe moss will approach GM and make some moss edition cars like shelby did back in the day.

edit: now that i think about it, i should buy a ls1/ls6 speedo face incase i ever run into him

I love this idea! He gave us reasons to hope when performance was a naughty word at GM. Moss editions would be a cool send-off. He is definitely worthy of :bow:

I have his autograph. BTW when I talked to him he said he would still be around for "special projects". But this was last summer.

DETROIT -The head of General Motors' custom and performance shop is retiring after 38 years at the company.

Jon Moss, 62, manager of specialty vehicles, has one of the best jobs in Detroit for car nuts. He produced performance vehicles for shows and production. Vehicles that came out of his garage were tricked out, souped up, dropped or jacked.

His productions include the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 with 770 hp and the Chevrolet Corvette Tiger Shark, with a supercharged 427-cubic-inch engine. A well-known production car, the 1994 Impala SS, was based on his team's 1992 Impala SS 510.

At last year's Specialty Equipment Market Association show in Las Vegas, Moss' team showed high-performance "Xtreme" concept vehicles from Chevrolet, customized Pontiac concepts and various accessories.

Moss started at GM in 1966 as a layout designer in the Chevrolet engineering center. He was promoted to manager of Chevrolet's special vehicles in 1986. He was promoted to his current job in 1999.

His retirement is effective April 1.

General Motors Performance Division, as one of their responsibilities, is to create all concept cars. We have seen some of their work already, so they have already assumed the duties Jon Moss had.

That effectively makes Jon Moss' replacement Mark Reuss, who runs that division.

GMPD also handles auto shows. That makes a certain Mr. Scott Settlemire a current part of that division as well. :)

At least he left the place in good hands. :D
