Elantra Coupe
Ok, I am really hoping we hear something about a Cruze coupe soon. It is going to be the only car in this class with no coupe counterpart...

Re: Elantra Coupe
A coupe, done right (not the bloated pregnant pig the previous Cobalt coupe was) is very important for the overall perception in the target market--and it's also a way to win younger buyers (think Civic Si, etc).
The world's second-largest car company should have a compact coupe. Period. No excuses.

Re: Elantra Coupe
And what happens to those numbers if you add the coupe-only G5 into the mix?
It also seems likely to me that the coupe might have had more retail sales vs. fleet for the sedan, but I could be wrong
I agree. Like I've said previously on other threads, even if there's not "Cruze Coupe" I'd like to see a Delta II coupe in Chevy showrooms. If they gave it its own name and sheetmetal, it could be even better than a Cruze coupe.

Sketch? Years? That concept came out at the end of last year. Production is set for this year.

Re: Elantra Coupe
I probably would have bought the Cruze 5-door if it was available here. Doubly so if there was a proper Pontiac version with some sport in it (too bad such a thing can obviously never happen).
But since I needed a car this month, I wound up getting a Mazda 3 hatchback instead, and I'm pretty pleased with it. I'll miss my Firebird.

Re: Elantra Coupe
How many hatches do we have here?
you can likley count them on one hand.
You on medications or something? Cobalt was by no means, no measurement, and by no logical or reasonable criteria a "bloated pig".
Look at it's weight. Look at it's competitor's weights.
In SS form, Cobalt (until the V6 Camaro came alone) was easily the best performance value on the planet. For just over 21 grand, you had a Nurbring capable vehicle that easily put the smakdown on anything in it's class.
Lay off the meds. The old Cobalt coupe was guilty of not matching quality of materials of it's competitors and looking too much like it's predecessor, the Cavalier.
But it was not a blated pig.

Hatches are also still big in Europe.

Does anyone have the exact number? My "eyeball" metrics tell me there are a lot of coupes out there. I tend to see far more coupes than sedans on the road.
And what happens to those numbers if you add the coupe-only G5 into the mix?

1. They tend to have short "coolness" lives. They require far more design updates than any other vehicle.
2. In this day and age of child seats, the easy access of 4 doors and crossovers makes young couples (once upon a time, the key buyers of coupes) makes those vehicles the top choice and coupes not even on the list.
3. Buyers who do go for coupes today, tend to go for expressive design. A Camaro, Challenger, Mustang, or even a Genesis might get attention, but a coupe that looks like a 2 door version of a sedan doesn't.

Re: Elantra Coupe
My personal opinion is that it's a tall, awkward, fat-looking, too-round, no-personality shot at a coupe that could have been very cool.
Why the ad hominem? Are you pissed there isn't a law saying everyone must agree with your unassailable wisdom?
