Interesting Info I found at the Dallas Auto Show

Over the weekend I went to the show twice and met a really cool informed lady at the Malibu display who worked for Mr. SS and knew John Moss. We talked cars for a few minutes then I asked her if she knew Mr. SS and anything about a 5th Generation Camaro. Getting around the small talk she knew Mr. SS very well and here are the main points I got out of our conversation.

#1)The Camaro is coming back, she said no doubt.
#2)She confirmed to me the Agreement with the CAW and gag order about the Camaro. But she said that the contract doesn’t end until 4 years after the cars stopped rolling off the line. She said the earliest we will see one will be 2006 or 2007. She repeated that a few times.
#3)She also mentioned that retro was a consideration. People like Mr. SS are against it, but I think after the Mustang Concept this year it is a consideration for some GM design guys.
#4) We all know this but she said it will come back RWD and with a V8
#5)She didn’t know what platform was being look at to put the Camaro on, did mention that the Monte Carlo and Impala will go on the Monaro platform. She said that as far as she knew no Chevelle was being considered as of now.
#6) Unfortunately though she said that she didn’t know that the Camaro project was being avidly worked on right now. She sort of alluded that it wasn’t right now and that other cars (monte and impy) were higher up on the priority list.

Over all this all sounded positive to me. I mean she bluntly said its coming and don’t worry. She seemed very creditable and was surprised how much I knew about this situation. She laughed and said “You’ve really done your homework.” After that I decided that I spent way too much time on this site. Well guys what do u think? Guion, is all this making sense from what you have heard from your inside info?

Thanks for the heads up.

This is the first I've heard about the Impala and Monte Carlo going to the 'Monaro' platform - I think this is a good idea with interesting potential.

Good information. Its always good to hear some stuff from inside GM that sounds like the same things we know from this board.

As far as I currently know, that's very accurate.

The only thing that's foggy is the Monte Carlo.

Still working on a project that sort of hits on that (and other) subjects, so stay tuned.

The thing that amazes me is that you got someone to talk about the word "Camaro"...

Perhaps more sign that the fog is beginning to clear... even a little.

Was she cute?

Strange that she knew of the gag order, yet spilled the beans anyway.

Yeah it really surprised me too. I more less said Camaro to her, then a few inside things of info I had picked up here, then asked about Scott and she really opened up. She talked about John Moss and Scott a lot. She must know both of them very well. It seems like on the inside of GM that Camaro is being talked about a lot and they are just itching to tell us about it. So is this the first time we have had a GM employee officially tell us about the gag order and a date? I was really surprised that she knew so much about this situation just being one of the nice lady's that give the car show presentations. The more I think about it, the Mustang Concept did a lot of good for us. She mentioned something about the Stang and it being one reason the Camaro might be considered retro. But then we both agreed it should continue to be an evolutionary design. I doubt she would get in trouble for what she told me. It wasn’t really any new information. She pretty much just confirmed some things we already knew. Still good to hear from an Gm employee that it is "for sure coming back." I recommend just going up to GM employees at the shows and asking questions. You have nothing to lose and you might get some info like I did.
