But I just saw one at our local dealer. It was just a base V6 and whatnot, but from what I can tell so far I love it! I intend to go take a good look at it tomorrow. Too bad it was $43,000.

Uh...me either!

If I were in the market for a $45+K sedan, that would be at the VERY TOP of my list. 2nd would be a CTS-V

I'd take the Northstar STS over the CTS-V any day of the week. The interior of the STS is so much nicer than the CTS. If I were that rich I'd have myself a hot rod Trans Am GTA to go play around in anyways.

Seen the car on the net and on mags. Appears to be another home-run for Cadillac .

ooo...maybe ill take a little trip to the the dealership and see if they have any sitting out front. I got to walk around the STS at the NYIAS, and its deffinatly an awesome and very powerful car. Id love to have a fully loaded STS AWD with Northstar as a daily driver!

Am I the only person here who thinks there's something wrong with paying $43,000 for a car that only has a V6 engine, especially one pushing 2 tons?

umm kinda struck me odd too...but what HP does it make and more important whats the price for the V8????

its going to be more compared to the higher up offerings of BMW and Merc. so maybee 43K is okay??? or the dealer marked it up???

No. You aren't the only one. I know they moved upmarket, but damn. Seems like they're adopting Benz's pricing strategy. A bit overpriced imo.

Re: I didn't know the new STS was already out...

I do not think its overpriced at all. Its a premium luxury/sports sedan.
And is totally appropriate for the segment.

This car is light years ahead of any car Cadillac has ever had and is a serious contender to BMW and Mercedes. You can now say Cadillac and its competitors in the same breath and not laugh.

I think some of you are expecting some kind of great horsepower value for the dollar or bang for the buck. This is not what the car is about. It does have more power then the Mercedes V6 and BMWs I6 (in the 5 series) and optioanl AWD.

Yeah, I noticed it had a V6 and when I looked at the price I looked like this: I think the 6 has something like 255 hp, but in a heavy car like that I imagine it wouldn't be very...um...exciting. Of course, if I ever got one it would be used (and with the V8) anyway. I should also say that this car had the faux aluminum dash trim that has become so popular lately. I think it looks ok, but on this particular car I like wood trim much better. Aluminum seems like it would be more fitting for the CTS than the STS.

Forecasts call for low 7 sec to 60mph. I'd be pretty excited by that...wait thats not a good thing to say but its true. Ah, I would get bored after awhile

While working at Corvette at Carlisle, I had the pleasure of going over a V8 STS, great looking car and a serious lux contender in my opinion. Very positive reactions from others who took the time to give it a once over.

low 7 seconds?
not bad imo
not really exciting but...it'll get you going ok
for people who that's not enough, get the v8
sounds like a decent strategy to me

RE: Price of V6. Check out the price on a 530i (or even the 525i, if that engine is offered in the new - ugly - body style).

Most reviews of the 3.6L six in the SRX have been extremely positive (basically the Northstar doesn't buy you much extra thrust). IOW, it is not overcome by the car's weight. And 2 tons is nothing in these times , thanks to all the safety and luxury items people want. A six series coupe, which is about the same size as an F-body, with a similarly useless back seat, weighs 2 tons and change, depending on options. And people used to call our cars fat.
Audis are fat. BMWs are fat. M-Bs are fat. The new XJ (all aluminum) is actually pretty reasonably light for that class.

Caddy SRX V6 AWD in C&D. Curb weight = 4442 lbs, 0-60 in 7.2 seconds.

Oh, and as an added benefit: the STS is simply gorgeous.

That V6 engine is pushing that 2 ton car from 0-60 in 6.6 sec. according to Cadillac.com

255HP is a lot better than the 194hp 2.5L from the BMW 525

Car looks hot too, If I had the cash that would be my second car (after a c6 Z06 )
