Where's the spy shots of the late 80's early 90's S-10 sized diesel pickup that gets 35-40 mpg?? Oh wait, that's right, GM isn't building one They'll be imported from India and China. Once again, the domestics will be caught with their pants down.

 

Who wants that? I sure as hell don't. Not everybody needs a tiny 60mpg pickup.

Hummer is low volume "niche" vehicles anyways. I think it looks cool!

 

I never said it wasn't cool. I think it is too, but to think people don't want a small pickup with great fuel mileage is crazy!

Within the past few years most trucks have gone to midsize. Comparing price and fuel mileage, (midsizes AREN'T cheap and they barely get a couple mpg better than a full size) it's almost stupid to not get a full size. The exception to the rule is the reg cab 4 cyl trucks, they do ok, but most are offered as such a stipped down boring looking truck noone wants them. In indianna there probably aren't many older trucks running around, I grew up in NY and most older small trucks have long ago rotted away.

But, down here in SC I see many 84-88 Toyota, early S-10, and early ranger pick-ups from back when they were small still on the road. I had an 86 toyota that got about 22 running around and 27 highway. A truck THAT SIZE with todays tech (especially a diesel) could see much higher gains. As long as it can tow about 3K and have an 800-1200 lb bed payload, I think they would sell.

Sorry for the rant, but I hate to see GM miss the boat again. I predict "small" will be making a comeback in the immediate future. I just hope GM is prepared.

 

Uhh me...the utility of even a small pickup is great. It'd be great for camping, runs to the home depot etc...and could tow at least a decent sized trailer for anythign larger thant he bed...all whille getting 30+mpg? sounds like a winner to me.

Actually gives me a good idea...stick a small diesel into an old S-10. I'll look into this as old S-10s are cheap as dirt.

 

It looks like the Hummer's version of an Avalanche.. And I have a soft spot for Avalanches Its one of the few unique modern vehicles that GM successfully made. So much that Honda went out of their way and made their own version of one.



What I wonder is what changes they will do on the bed area. Will those support structure by the cab look the same, or will have a unique design? What would the panels look like? Will they be painted, or perhaps texturized differnetly? Will the "gutter" design stay the same? Put more tiedown's?


Also stuff like Will it have 6 speed auto in it? Even nicer interior? what will they do with the suspension?

This has to be a joke. or GM is being real stupid here. The market for the H2 is already limited, and the H2 is in serious need of some updating....like it could use room for more than 5 people, it could use much better seats and interior ergonomics, how about an interior befitting a 60k luxury niche SUV, or maybe actual usable cargo space, and how about an update to a design [admittedly still a classic].

I like the concept of the H2, but the execution [besides the exterior design] is so awful, it's no wonder they've been piling up on the lots for years now. To release a truck like the one pictured is pathetically stupid, in today's climate.

I'm hoping this is actually a prototype for an Army vehicle.

Hummer could be made into a genuine Land Rover competitor [it already is in many ways], but not with this.

 

H2 seats 6 with the optional back seat. The 2008 models also got an all new interior.

 

If this H2 concept is based off the GMT900 platform, it'll most likley have an improved interior and ride.. And the longer one will have more usable cargo space.

 

thanks. i like the interior better this time around, but have you seen Land Rover's Range Rover? That is the bomb, and classic baby. Hummer needs to carve a distinct image to truly be worthy of $60k, in my book, and this doesn't do it. it's too blah....even if the materials appear nicer and it has brightwork.

also, the optional seat is housed in a claustrophic position next to a tire. All the seats lack headroom and legroom. Hummers need to be taller roofed, I think. I guess that it could continue compromised in terms of spaciousness [since it's Hummer and a specialty and needn't please everybody], but the style would need to be completely there to compensate. It's not as it is. The exterior could use some spicing up to bring it into the new century, the old model doesn't look as advanced as newer SUVs do in terms of exterior panels/design.

 

Wow - it's a good thing that GM is spending money on a bigger H2 instead of finding some diesel power for the current H2 and H3

I'm a bit torn, though - I mean, on one hand, the current H2 pickup is about as useless as it gets, but on the other hand, a bigger H2 pickup is just going to take up more space when it's parked at the mall.

 

yah...a bigger H2 for soccer mom's is *exactly* what we need.

 

I dont' think i've EVER seen an H2 driven by a woman. This is a small market. I hardly see them.
