GM to cease Vibe production in August, ending public availability of Pontiac brand
Though General Motors had announced last week that it planned to continue production of the Pontiac Vibe through the 2010 model year, the restructuring Detroit automaker now says that it has reached an agreement with Toyota to cease building the hatchbacks at the end of August 2009.
The Vibe was, unceremoniously, set to be the last Pontiac-badged vehicle available to consumers. The Vibe’s departure leaves only the G6 in production, which will be available solely to fleet users for the 2010 model year.
The Vibe was built at the GM-Toyota NUMMI joint-venture assembly plant in Fremont, California. It is expected that GM will continue to utilize the plant, though a release from the automaker says only that, ” GM and Toyota remain in active discussions regarding potential future production at NUMMI.”

You know, it'd be nice if Pontiac would have the Solstice or even G8 be the last car to be rolled off the assembly line, not the Vibe. I just can't believe the last Pontiac to be built will be a Vibe. Let it be a car with some performance value behind it.
How about a limited number edition 2010 G8 GXP. Make 1000 cars, number them, and sell them loaded for a fat profit.
I didn't realize all Pontiacs have already ended production, but the G6 and Vibe. Did I read that right? I thought the G8 was going to be around till the end of next year?
Pretty sad, even Oldsmobile got Final 500 special editions for every model in the lineup when Olds died.

Pontiac has has the highest concentration of female buyers of any import or domestic namplate for well over a decade.
Pontiac has been one of the top suppliers to rental agencies and fleet sales for more years than I can count.
Pontiac lost it's unique engines 30 years ago, and it's last unique version of other engines happened 20 years ago.
Pontiac's only current enthusiasts models, the Solstice and the G8, happened because the 1st was newly hired Bob Lutz's priority and he got it made as a sort of test of GM's development process, while the latter (as fantastic a car as it is) is still another brand's import.
Pontiac's best selling vehicle the past few years is a crossover SUV.
The Grand Prix became a family sedan that was an Avis favorite.
The G6 fell into the same path, despite GM's best plans for the car.
The G5 is a better looking Cobalt.
The last edition Bonneville was a confused disaster, attempting to appeal to older buyers with a softer than Buick ride, and attempting to appeal to younger buyers with it's styling, but appealing to no one but car rental agencies (Bonneville sold next to no retail, hence the reason for it's demise).
Any you gentlemen are concerned that Pontiac isn't going out in a way that takes into account it's performance history?
Gentlemen....
..... It wouldn't make a difference if the Aveo-based G3 was the last Pontiac to leave an assembly line.
The Pontiac you are thinking of left the building before most of you were born, and the shadow of Pontiac past faded even before Bob Lutz first set foot on General Motors proprety as their new Vice Chairman.
The Vibe is what Pontiac has been for years.
It's completely fitting that it's the one that's getting the lights on the way out.

Well, really, the last Pontiac to leave the line is the car that ends production before the Vibe, because the Vibe is pretty much a Toyota, including the drivetrain.
Let's hope that car's not the Torrent, because that's really a Chevrolet (Or Suzuki, depending on your outlook). Speaking of Outlook, let's hope it's not the Montana, either, because that's a Saturn or a Chevrolet, or Buick. Or the G5 or G3, because one's Chevrolet and the other is a Korean piece of **** that wears Chevrolet badges like Purple Hearts on someone who's never been in the military.
Bye Pontiac. The Solstice and the G8 may now exit quietly...I wouldn't want to be seen departing with those other pieces of junk, either.

You got that right! Since it was only offered for 1/2 of a model year there couldn't be more than 2,000-3,000 of them made! That has instantly made them limited availability special editions that will be very hard to find & cost an arm & a leg when you do find 1! Guy, even with the division's mis-management there were still those at Pontiac that still tried to swing at the fences. Just look at the GP GXP, specifically at it's suspension & brake package. It's what set it apart from all of the other V-8 W-bodies.
