Front Wheel Drive

Why is it that everyone kills good cars by making them front wheel drive. It happened to the Malibu, the Impala SS, and you know what I think is gonna happen next, yeah even I dread the thought a FWD Camaro in a few years. What do you think the possibilities of this are. I hope to God this wont happen, but given a trend at Chevrolet I wouldnt be shocked if it happened.

Actually, the F4 was originally going to come out in the late 1980's and was going to be FWD. Public outcry changed that in a hurry.

The Camaro won't be FWD, that we do know. All the companies are also looking to go back to RWD in more than musclecars.

F4 is fourth generation F-body. Like C-5 is fifth gen Corvette.

...like the generation of the Z you're driving right now...

You could very well be driving a FWD Camaro if it had not been canned back in the 80s...

Camaro will not come back FWD.

There was a time in the late 80's where it was possible, but today, it just won't happen.

RWD is part of the essence of Camaro.

Some cars, like the Impala just became more practical being FWD. Thast why cars like teh Impala and Monte Carlo went FWD. Think about it, if you ran GM would you rather sell a few RWD Imapala SS's to make enthuisest happy, or 3 times the number of FWD coupse with similar performance. The FWD cars generally get better milage and can be driven in more adverse conditions as well. Just think about how many sales GM would lose if they still made the Impala SS and tried to compete with cars like the TL Type S.

If you want RWD, we have the Corvette, CTS and the GTO is coming soon. All of the Caddys are goin RWD as a matter of fact. You just have to remember that money talks. If they do bring back the Camaro, I sorta hope they dont bring back the firebird. Its not that I dont like firebirds, they are sweet, but they have always kinda been a secondary car to teh camaro in image. I believe that they sorta stretched out GM's resources. They shouldnt have too many cars in the same niche. Especially if they build the Soltice. 3 rwd Pontiac sports coupes, even though they would be in different price ranges could crowd the market. We'll see though...
