Drove the Solstice
Drove the Solstice
What an amazing vehicle. The find folks from http://www.JimCausley.com came through with the keys to a silver Solstice once the 2nd annual Gratiot Cruise had ended. A nice half hour ride through the city was more than enough to convince myself this vehicle and I are meant to be together.
On a side note, C&G appears to be closed for good.
On with the show!

Re: Drove the Solstice
I have been unable to reach owner Walt Keegan since we had issues earlier in the week. Those issues I was able to resolve on my own, without needing action from him. However when the site went down this last time (with the message you see now) it is not because somebody is banned, it is because the site has been taken offline from the server. Either because somebody requested it (certainly not I) or because we had so many issues the server shut us down as they have in the past.
I've tried numerous times to contact Walt, but each and everytime has gone unnoticed. I certainly know he is a busy person with a lot on his plate but I figured a response would have been given by now, especially the voice message that was left just last night.
I cannot access my email at all. Nothing related to cheersandgears.com can be accessed. Is this a glitch on their end? It's entirely possible, but with little to go by, I have to fear for the worst and move on in my own way, which is a new site owned by myself.
I've offered countless times to take over the payments for C&G (which are not the reason the site has this issue I may add) and plans for that were brought up, approved, but nothing came of it. This is where we are right here. I know Walt through phone conversations and he is a person that I feel would do what is best. I fear that he may have had enough and said "to hell with it all" and pulled the final plug. *Which I do not know if that's the case or not at this point, just speculating*
At anyrate, I'm going no where, however a new site will take quite sometime to develop. Is it sad? Absolutely. C&G was in my blood much like General Motors is still to this day. I feel we have much to offer to enthusiasts as I planned for many big things this summer at the Gratiot Cruise today (had to cancel those plans for this obvious reason. Why promote a site that doesn't exist?) as well as Woodward and leading up to the NAIAS this January.
Hopefully some clarity comes of this all and real quick.
And oh yea, I can't way to own my Solstice. Truthfully, it's a chick magnet of a car. Never in my life did I imagine such attention because of an automobile but wow. The 177hp gets up and moves and I was able to chirp them right through 3rd gear. At one stop light I had a gentleman yelling at me because I did not get on it at the previous light. I gave him what he wanted
The interior controls are exactly where they should be. The only fear that I have is the passenger might not have enough room. NOS (from C&G) was with me when we went on our spin. He's 5'7" and had enough room for his legs so that it was comfortable, however when I sat in the passenger seat before the drive was to begin my legs were very cramped and I'm 5'10".
I joked with NOS and Mr. Causley that I apparently will have to settle for a girlfriend that is about 5'5" for her to be really comfortable in the passenger seat.
Also, I do not see how the General says two golf bags can fit in the trunk with the top down. Impossible. I don't see how one could fit in there with ease.
On the flip side, the top is extremly easy to operate and can be done with one hand. It's that simple. You start with the top (obviously) secured in place to the trunk. Pop the glove box, press the trunk release button and the top "unlocks" itself from the trunk. Lift the trunk with one hand (which opens with severe ease) pull the top close (again with much ease) with one hand, push the drunk closed and bam, you're ready for top down driving fun.

Re: Drove the Solstice
Yeah, it's definitely a hell of a nice car. I definitely recommend you ALL to chill in one, even as a passenger (given you're short.. you get no room but I was comfortable.. I'm 5'7" 145 lbs)
Re: Drove the Solstice
Needless to say (which NOS can confirm) my manual driving skills do need some work. LOL. My friends Jeep and my buddy's '05 GTO did not give me such trouble as this clutch did. I'll nail it soon however.

You started out real rough, but you were shaping up by the end. I'm just shocked we weren't pulled over at every stop light or sign.
Glad you two had fun. There are no Solstii in my area yet to try out.
We did just get Impalas, an HHR and a black G6 Coupe. Fun fact about the G6 Coupe: the windows retract and go up when you open and close the doors. Can your Accord do that?
Now, about C&G. Its good to finally hear something about whats been happening. Iv been in the dark (as well as all the members I would assume).
I really hope that It returns. I havn't had any luck contacting Walt either.

All the best.
With regards to the Solstice... why can't Holden have one, please GM?
I'd rather that than the Astra convertible... which looks geared a bit towards females.
Re: Drove the Solstice
Sounds a bit like what's happened at LS1.com-- an indifferent owner lets the site fall apart despite the best efforts of the people trying to run it. I sure hope the results are different this time.
