His two-tone paint schemes get a bit predictable at times, but it still sounds pretty neat. Surely they'll put Foose wheels on the car...
LAS VEGAS -- If Ford wants street credibility, it sure found the right guy to team up with.
Starting in 2007, Ford dealerships will sell special edition models designed by Chip Foose, considered among the industry's sharpest independent designers.
Ford officials declined to estimate how many Foose vehicles will be sold through dealerships. The first vehicle Foose will modify will be a F-150 truck, said Robert Parker, Ford brand car marketing manager. Ford would not say which other vehicles might be on the list, but Foose said he would "love to refine and play with a Fusion."
The California designer is known for million-dollar one-off creations that have won "America's Most Beautiful Roadster" award six times. Obviously, the Ford versions will not cost as much.
"The vehicles will deliver on the Foose DNA without diluting the Ford promise of being affordable," Parker said in an interview at the SEMA show here
The vehicles will be assembled partly on Ford assembly lines as well as by third-party manufacturers, similar to Ford's arrangement with Carroll Shelby for the special edition Mustangs bearing his name.
"If Chip wants to add a carbon fiber skull cap, then we can do that on the Ford line," Parker said. "But if he wants to have special Foose wheels on the car, then that's something that will have to be done by Chip's builder."

so there's going to be a lot of two-tone Ford trucks and cars running around with 20" wheels on them now?
Foose is almost as predictable as the guys from "Pimp my Ride". The show always has the one guy who installs a bare minimum of 8 TV's in every car he touches.

I liked what he did with the Speedbird...

I wouldn't call Foose predictable by any stretch of the imagination. Maybe people think that because of that gay show where they have a "week" to do it, but when he sits back and plans a project out he turns out some great stuff.
Obviously they won't be turning out stuff as radical as the speedbird. They just want to cash in on the Foose name, slap a two-tone paint job on there and his emblem and rake in some cash.

One of my companies suppliers has a paint shop in an automotive complex in Huntington Beach Calif., next to where Chip Foose's HQ's is located as well as a bunch of other hot-rodder/aftermarket shops.
Except for some notable exceptions most all of those hot-rodders located in the area in Huntington Beach has seen their business slow down to almost a crawl. Those shops have been pretty sluggish thoughout the year and their business really started to tank when gas prices started climbing during the summer. They got a bump in business from SEMA and some other shows that are coming up, but now that most of those projects are complete their business is quickly declining again.
Something has significantly changed in the aftermarket/hod-rodding industry during the last 12 months. I don't know if it directly related to declining disposable inclome related to falling home prices or higher gas prices but something has gone wrong in the industry.

It'll definitely be interesting to see if this is just part of the typical aftermarket cycle, or more of a canary-in-the-mineshaft effect. I'd suspect that sales of brand-new uberluxury cars should provide some additional indication.
I would also like to see how this trend correlates with those in the custom chopper motorcycle biz.
Just as West Coast Choppers in Long Beach benefitted for the reality show craze of the last 5 years so did many of these hot-rod shops in Huntington Beach who frequently participated in Reality-TV hot rod shows.
I wouldn't call Foose predictable. Much of what is done on Overhaulin' is reused ideas because they have a good idea of how long it will take. They can't be done to fast and they don't want it taking to long.
Should be interesting to see what comes of this. I love the look of the Foose/Unique Performance Stallions
