whats next? green peace will start complaining about the silverado commercial where the guy stretches his truck by tying it up to a tree because it will cause people to go around and uproot trees?
I think you just thought of the new Camaro commercial...

"After 5 years (assuming 2007), it's Back. Relive the past. So badass, that the Center for Auto Safety won't let us start the car for this commercial because the whine of the supercharger and true-dual exhaust just might give you a ****ing heart attack."
700hp... Under-rated from the factory, just like the 4th gens

Not very surprising. Remember, it was only 7 months ago that Janet Jacksons boob was treated as a sign of the apocalypse.

Unfortunately I guess I could have predicted this would happen.

Some of you have heard me say in the past how we're constantly under attack...because we're the biggest. Many of you have written to me with ideas of ads.....and invariably it involves spinning/sliding/powerdrifts/burnouts....and I know what happens when we do anything like that.

Quite frankly I was struck stupid when it was approved to show the SSR doing a 180 and backing onto the car carrier in our "car carrier" commercial. (ahhhh...the power of Mr. Lutz over some attorneys!)

I thought the Corvette ad was genius and by the posts on many sites, so did many many more people.

did not read Auto Extremist....but I will say this......he has an axe to grind with Campbell-Ewald, our ad agency...... (go look at his past)

While I agree with some of what he has to say, I think he's gone overboard more and more lately. (just my honest humble opinion...but hey, what do I know....)

Memo to Krazzykowgirl........so you WERE paying attention to 'old war' stories last weekend!!!

One last thought...I don't watch what all these organizations do...but I would say this to them: How about spending your efforts in getting a COMPREHENSIVE Driver Education Program ....NATIONAL in scope....passed....you would do much more good than playing 'chicken little'...........

MasterEvilAce, we need u on the fifth gen design team. I like 700 underrated hp.

As far as this commercial goes, maybe I'm the last of the breed, being that I'm 18 and aging out of "my childhood" why the hell can't parents just say,

"Kids, do not believe everything you see on TV. I don't care if you want to fly in a car, your dad will spank the crap out of you if you even touch the keys."
If your kid is so freakin dumb that he tries to fly your Corvette, well then he deserves too. I'm sorry was that to harsh, or just "politically incorrect?"
What is the problem here? Oh and while we're at it, why censor the word "****" on TV. AHHHH he said, no he did, OMFG he said "****." Every 4 year old knows what he said so why did we just censor it? Censorship is BS, we have the right to free speech.

IF THE PARENTS THINK IT'S WRONG, SHUT THE DAMN TV OFF.

Let the parents take responsibility for raising their kid.

Buncha damn hippies

Guess I didn't save it as I expected GM to keep it around as it is an awesome commercial. If anyone has it I would be happy to host it.......ftp.9handsracing.com - Login - c6@9handsracing.com Password - commercial

DETROIT (Reuters) - Protests from seven safety groups prompted General Motors Corp. to pull a television ad that shows a young boy driving a Corvette sports car so recklessly that it goes airborne, officials of the automaker said on Wednesday.

The ad, featuring the Rolling Stones song "Jumpin' Jack Flash," has aired repeatedly during the Olympics. The groups, including Consumers Union and the Center for Auto Safety, complained that it was "the most dangerous" spot they have seen in recent years.

Directed by singer Madonna's husband Guy Ritchie, the spot shows a boy's daydream of racing the Corvette through downtown streets and through a construction pipe. The safety groups said in a letter to GM released on Wednesday that the spot could encourage children to take their parents' cars for a drive.

"This ad is certainly among the most dangerous, anti-safety messages to be aired on national television in recent years," the safety groups said in a joint letter sent to GM Chairman and Chief Executive Rick Wagoner. "It is doubtful that General Motors would condone the beer industry showing a "dream sequence" of 10-year-old children having an after-school "kegger,"" the letter said.

The ad does include a warning that drivers should operate the vehicle safely and must have a license, but the automaker decided to stop airing the spot, GM spokesman Joe Jacuzzi said on Wednesday.

"We decided to pull it due to responses and feedback we received," Jacuzzi said. "It's a big ad, and it's been airing for a while, but we've got a whole campaign."

The Corvette ad is one of many spots GM prepared for the Summer Olympics. GM is the largest television advertiser during the Summer Games, spending 10 times more during the Aug. 13-29 Olympics than it typically spends during a comparable period.

The seven groups who signed the letter include Consumers Union, Public Citizen, Center for Auto Safety, Consumer Federation of America and Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety.

Groups have also protested controversial ads or marketing campaigns from other automakers in recent years.

Ford Motor Co. was targeted when an ad showing a cat poking its head through the sunroof of the SportKa, only to be decapitated when the roof closes, found its way onto the Internet. But that spot, which Ford said it never authorized and never aired, is still shown on the Internet, where it has created a buzz.

Chrysler pulled its sponsorship of the "Lingerie Bowl," which featured models in scanty outfits playing football and aired during halftime of the Super Bowl in February.

You guys just can't win, the SSR "soap" cammercial was taken off the air for equally dumb reason, and that didn't have any spinning/sliding/powerdrifts or burnouts

Why not simply continue to air the commercial?

Was it federally mandated that it be taken off the air? Doesn't sound like it.

It's obvious that these "seven safety groups" do not represent the generally feeling of the commercial as a whole?
