Corvette C6

heard this from a friend but haven't seen anything mentioned about the new vette having an all aluminum frame and weighting in under 3,000 pounds.

Does anyone know if this is true?

The rumor of the C6 having an aluminum frame has been around for awhile now. There was a pretty big debate over the legitmacy of this rumor at corvetteforum.com. If I remember correctly, the general consensous from the more credible sources there was that it is unlikely we will see this on the C6. I try to see if I can't find the thread I'm referring to.

Hummm, that's what I was wondering, cauz a friend of mine told me one of his friends was on the team that desingned the frame. But that would be pretty big news if it was aluminum and I figured we would of heard it before.

I would think the C6 would be an ongoing evolution of the C5, give that its current platform is pretty well done.

C6 Z06: 3100lbs, 500hp.

Larnach will be absolutely thrilled with what is being considered for C7.

C7 is due what?..2014-2015? Dave Hill will be in the great Corvette pasture somewhere...i will be...gasp damn near 35 and Hillary Clinton will be in her first term as President since she wants to run in 20012 it seems.

I read somewhere that they were going to use aluminum frame rails but they "could not be completed in time" so they reverted back to steel.

The idea was to give the C6 an aluminum frame based on the C5's frame. However due to the sharing of funds with the XLR and some question as to the ability to engineer the frame with in the time frame allowed that the idea has been put on hold.
On the other front the Z06 development may be able to keep this alive. Since the Z06's goals for performance hinge on the power to weight ratio as well as balance the aluminum frame is tops on the list of needs.
I'd look for to C6 Z06 to weight sub 3000 lb's with power in the 450hp range.

From what I was told GM wan'ts the new z06 to compete with the top of the line Porche.

I'd be willing to bet that 450hp for the ZO6 is a conservative estimate. My money's on closer to 500hp.

If the Z06 does get an aluminum frame and weighs under 3000 pounds, you have to remember that suddenly 500 HP is not mandatory to keep up with Viper or GT(40). The more the better however!

We're only talking about one model year away, I doubt their going to increase the HP# by 100 in that amount of time. Even if that is the actual #, they'll probably downplay it to 425-450...
