Column & floor Shifters

Is it just me, or are a lot of new cars coming out with floor shift for the automatics? I know that sport/muscle cars will always have floor shifters. I remember when a lot of cars had a column shifter for the base models, and floor shifters for the higher-end and sportier trim levels of the models. It doesn't really bother me, just something I've noticed lately. Anyone have a preference when it comes to the location of the shifter, in general. I would have to say on the floor, just because you get the console with it.

I prefer the floor shifter by far. Column shifter seem very cheap to me and are not pleasing to look at. Since floor shifters come with a center console area, I prefer that as well. I don't think there are many, or any, column shifters left today.

Floor shifters are cooler looking, but Column shifters offer much better utility use of the center console space.

Definitely floor shifters. I remember seeing a car once developed for disabled people who cannot use their legs, and their accelerator looked very similar to the shifter... can't help since then but think that column shifters are for people with special needs.

Re: Column & floor Shifters

floor shifters for vehicles with bucket seats up front

column shifters obviously for benches.

IMO, I think trucks should have benches, and therefore column shifters.

exception if is a manual trans then floor shifter.. no funky column shifter..

I would not mind a column shifter in a large luxury car like the DTS or Lucerne but in anything with a sporty intention floor is the ONLY way to go.

I like floor all the way. But I think from now on I'm just buying manuals, so do what you want with those slushboxes.

Floor shifters and consoles can get in the way of things at times while on a long trip with your S/O.

Re: Column & floor Shifters

Column take up less space and are the way to go for trucks. Floor shifters are cheaper but look sportier in cars.
