Chevy Really Needs its Full Car Line-Up Back.
I was up in the attic a few weeks ago getting Christmas stuff down and I came across a box that had some of the older dealer car catologs in it. I found one that was from 1992, Chevy's full line-up catalog.
I know we've come along way since the low point in 2003 when there was only Cavalier, Malibu, Impala, Monte Carlo & Corvette. The line-up today is still got some big holes in it. Here was the full line up back in 1992. Cavalier Coupe Cavalier Convertible Cavalier Sedan Cavalier Wagon Beretta Corsica Camaro Camaro Convertible Lumina Sedan Lumina Coupe Lumina APV Caprice Caprice Wagon Corvette Corvette Convertible |
Re: Chevy Really Needs its Full Car Line-Up Back.
If you coun't Lumina APV in 1993, you'd have to count Venture in 2003 as well. If you think about it, the lineups are almost comparable:
Here was the full line up back in 1992. Cavalier Coupe -- Cobalt Coupe Cavalier Convertible -- Hole in the lineup Cavalier Sedan --Cobalt Sedan Cavalier Wagon -- HHR Beretta -- Cobalt SS? Corsica -- Malibu Camaro -- Coming, but when? Camaro Convertible Coming, but when? Lumina Sedan - Impala Lumina Coupe - Monte Carlo Lumina APV - Uplander Caprice - Hole in the Lineup Caprice Wagon - Hole in the Lineup Corvette - Corvette Corvette Convertible - Corvette Convertible Plus we now have: Malibu Maxx Aveo Sedan Aveo Hatch So there are almost as many vehicles - just now there are subcompacts vs. any rwd full sizers. Of course, if you add Geo in Chevy had even more cars in 1993. |

Also back then they had the Geo Line up of cars, which were considered Chevys
Another thing that is missed is the V6 option in the Cavalier, I know we've got the Cobalt SS now which is faster and 100 times better car than the old J-Bodies, but the torquey V6 in that small of a car was really nice. They had awesome take-off, but they fell pretty flat when you hit 3rd gear. And the Z24s had a pretty good following going, which disappeared in '95 when the 4 cylinder only Cavaliers came out, but they too got a following going from a different crowd. I guess the V6 Z24 guys moved on up the line to 4th gen. Z28s. You can count me as one, only I had a Cavalier RS w/3.1 V6. Their was just more options back then. |

Chevrolet only needs every single type of car if GM gets rid of Buick, Pontiac, Saturn, and Saab.

Too much redundency. Not to mention, GM has multiple divisions and all this would do is canabilize on what would have been other GM brand sales.
