....and now I'm beginning to understand why its not available in Canada.

44,470 in the US would mean the car would be over 60K here in Canada, and no-one will pay that much for a car when clearly you could have a BMW, Audi, or MB with the same performance for that price........

I suspect the car has fallen into the clutches of the high exchange rate of the Aussie dollar. Move production into the US and the car should be much, much cheaper....and hopefully available in Canada then!!

*Edit*.......When this thing tanks in the U.S. over the next year due to being overpriced and no manual........I'll gladly take one here in Canada at a significant discount!!!!

I'm not at all surprised. Chevy always said this car would be premium priced so sales should reflect that. And now with the much more capable and attractive Impala in the same showroom this car is going to be rare.

The SS is by no shape form or fashion going to be a money loser for GM.

1. The car is nothing more than a LHD Commodore SS that is already in production.

2. The Chevrolet SS is only made when someone places an order. It's not on a production line on it's own and there's not even any from GM making any sales projections. If you want one, you simply go to your Chevy dealer and order it and THEN they'll make it. It's not going to be sitting on any dealer lots unless the dealer ordered it.

3. At $44K, it's certainly going to be profitable on a per-car basis (which is how GM is selling it.

To those of you who think it's overpriced, consider that a Charger SRT8 STARTS at $47,400!

An SRT8 300 costs only a shade below $50K

Suddenly, the SS' $3000 cheaper price tag under the Charger doesn't seem all that outrageous.

The Chevrolet SS looks has the looks of the Malibu. Dodges SRT series is their elite brand. the Charger and 300 are both already well selling cars. The SS is just another import with a price markup. Just like the GTO when it came out going for close to 40K in ye old economy. It was expensive and sold poorly plus it looked bland which didn't help. That was the 3rd worse Idea GM ever had along with getting rid of the Camaro and Firebird in the first place.

People shopping for a GM car with 40K and above to spend on a Sedan aren't thinking Chevrolet, they are thinking Cadillac. Besides what's with GM trying to make new intermediate luxury sedan market for Chevrolet. They already have a brand just for that it's called Buick. Why can't that go build a new T-type or put an LSA or LS3 under the hood of a Buick then you'd have a car worth the asking price.

Its not that much more than a Pontiac GXP. The Pontiac G8 GXP topped out at $41,590 msrp and that was 5 model years ago. I believe GM only produced around 1,800 GXPs before Pontiac's throat was cut. The SS is only going to be built to order so these things are going to be pretty exclusive, kind of like CTS-V wagons.

Here is my problem with the SS. I always thought the G8 GXP was too high $$ for the narrow performance margin over the G8 GT, and same goes for the SS, its the same GXP performance 5 years later. The SS at that price should have gotten a 6-speed manual option and the LT1 or LSA putting out around 450 hp. The SS with 415 hp is coming up short horsepower wise compared to its main competition.

I thought it was expensive until you put it like that.

It would be nice if the Camaro has a sedan brother that was priced and optioned similarly.

I was going to say that I'd rather have a 2014 CTS Vsport with manual, but those cost $59k :eek:

I have a feeling this will be the next GTO/GXP. Americans will sh!t bricks on the price/looks/whatever and then complain when they missed the boat years later.
