You misunderstood what this list represents. The list is for "top american-made cars", it doesn't rank how "american-made" the cars are. They state that sales are a factor in their ranking, which certainly is the big contributor to Camry being number 1. Being at least a certain percentage american-made is only a requirement to be on the list.

these list are total bull.....

we can make such a list so the chevy is 1st in the list...

lets see this Index rates vehicles built and bought in the U.S. Factors include sales, where the car's parts are made and whether the car is assembled in the U.S. Models that have been discontinued are disqualified, as are those with a domestic-parts content rating below 75 percent and that is an american brand that went bankrup...

1. Chevrolet Malibu*** Kansas City, Kan. 3
2. Chevrolet Silverado 1500*** Fort Wayne, Ind. 8
3. GMC Sierra 1500*** Fort Wayne, Ind. —

This.

That list does not measure the domestic parts content of the car. That's only a list of their preferred vehicles whose domestic parts content exceeds 75%.

Well according to their definition, it is based only on sales, American parts content and where it is built. It says nothing about their opinion factoring in. In other words, the Camry apparently beats out F-150 because even though it doesn't sell quite as many units it apparently has more American parts in it to make up the difference.

The problem with these "rankings" is that they don't actually GIVE the formula for calculating their results. How is parts content weighed compared to sales? What is the final score of each vehicle, is it close at the top?

Actually, further down they give some good info.

Make/Model Domestic-parts content Assembly location
Ford Taurus 90 percent Chicago
Lincoln MKS 85 percent Chicago
Toyota Sienna 85 percent Princeton, Ind.
GMC Savana 1500 82 percent Wentzville, Mo.
Chevrolet Express 1500 82 percent Wentzville, Mo.
Buick Lucerne 81 percent Detroit
Chevrolet Malibu 80 percent Kansas City, Kan.
Honda Odyssey 80 percent Lincoln, Ala.
Toyota Avalon 80 percent Georgetown, Ky.
Toyota Tundra 80 percent San Antonio
Toyota Venza 80 percent Georgetown, Ky.

But, Camry and the F150 aren't on that list...
