C6 Horsepower numbers from Automotive Design and Production Magazine
C6 Horsepower numbers from Automotive Design and Production Magazine
I grabbed this from a post over a Corvette Forum:
So... perhaps Corvette will be the first to break 600 hp in production trim...
On page 24 of the November issue it states
" When Chevrolet rolls out the 6th gen Corvette at the North American Inter. Auto Show in January, the Gen 4 V8 will have a reported 405 hp, the same as the current Z06. Insiders at both GM and suppliers say the Z06 will have an even 500hp, but will not be the most powerful Corvette. That prize will belong to the limited production ZL1 which is producing 625 hp in production trim. The Gen4 has thinner bore walls, stronger bulkheads, and retains the cast-in-place iron cylinder liners. The casting process includes a mechanically induced rapid chilling of the bulkheads to promote swift directional solidification of the aluminum and a fine grain structure , both of which improve dimensional stability. A composite barrel crank core replaces the current segmented barrel design, again for tighter and more consistant bore dimensions. The cores are screwed and glued together, the aluminum is pumped in rather than poured, and all the oil galleries are drilled and machined."
A subsequent note next to a pic of a C6( the old pic of the white car with the masks on it) states that the ZL1 is a twin turbo model.

Do you think that'd be the C5-R's motor? That'd make the most sense, since the engine is already there.

Please let this be true.
Please let the ZL1 cost less than a Viper.
Then I know what my next car will be.
(You can wag your mouths all you want about 600HP Mercedes and 480HP Skylines, but I'll take THIS one . . . and maybe a 540HP Lightning to haul things in.)

Enzo Ferrari 660hp
Mercedes CL/S65 612hp (700+tq!)
Maybe a few others before or in the middle. But maybe the Vette will be the first to do it for around $100k
It's been said that a better Corvette means a better Camaro, but I think past that.
A Better Corvette means a Better Camaro, GTO, XLR, Caprice, Silverado, and pretty much every other RWD GM
Wow, that is incredible! I can't wait to see these new C6's. I think that there will not be much legitamate competition for the C6.
The 600hp thing was related to a poll about American auto makers.

Sadly, the camaro might still have to deal with this limitation, even if a 625hp ZL1 would be introduced.
Still, can't complain about a 390-400hp packaged into an affordable car (z28/SS/GTO). That's still a lot of *****. CTS-V will most likely get the zo6's 500hp powerplant.

Who knows at this stage. We will though in a couple of years
.
Yeah and the new lightning is supposed to have 540hp. When will it stop? When the factory cars are hitting 10's? To many people are gonna be getting killed because they are gonna be jumping into these machines and not knowing how to control them. Better hope they got some good safty features. But i am happy to see this news.
