Buick sales up while Toyota sales plummet 35% here in SoCal!

I would say that Hell has frozen over, but the weather here in Orange County was too damn nice today to say that ;)

January’s slumping sales slammed all industry segments. Toyota/Scion — the most popular brand in Orange County — slumped 35.8 percent. Luxury brands suffered: Lexus down 28.6 percent, BMW off 32.5 percent, Mercedes falling 35.3 percent, Porsche plunging 36.9 percent, Cadillac cascading 42.9 percent. Ford fell 22.3 percent while Chevrolet dove 38 percent.

Buick, Volkswagen, Hyundai, Mazda and Infiniti were the only brands to see a sales increase.

So Buick sales were up, but Chevy and Caddy sales fell further than Toyota's? I doubt that this is cause for partying in downtown Detroit.

Just nitpicking, but I found this funny:

Toyota sales slumped 35.8%

Lexus down 28.6%

Cadillac cascading 42.9%

Chevy dove 38%

Chevy brands were only down 2% lower than Toyota, but yet, Toyota sales slumped while Chevrolet's dove

Gotta love the media :D

I agree far too nice these past few days!

IMO based on the economy around here I'd say we finally got cought with the economic slowdown the rest of the country has had for some time. The mortgage industry and real estate, two of the OC's trademark industries, have really gone sour. I know a few people with big degrees from big schools that are sitting in expensive homes and not working... a new car is the last thing on their minds.

Toyota is the most popular brand in the OC? I though Orange County has historically been a republican stronghold?

We outsource our national sovereignty just like our more liberal neighbors up north. ;)

Since your housing market is diving down the cascades, I'd say that fits. :p
