Anyone else like the new GM commercial? GM Reinvention?
Anyone else like the new GM commercial? GM Reinvention?
For some reason this commercial makes me stop in my tracks whenever it comes on. I couldn't see another post regarding this TV ad on here, and maybe it's not the right forum.
But I find the commercial inspiring. Talking about how having 8 brands for years made sense then, but not now. That this isn't the end etc etc etc.
I think it was a job well done. Anyone else think so?
I can't provide a video link because my video streaming at work is the equivalent to a 2400 baud modem. So it would take me a while to find it.

I think they should stop using the GM name, it is tainted goods. Start marketing cars as Chevrolets, Buicks, and Cadillacs.
You don't see Lexus commercials where they brag about being part of Toyota, or Volvo with Ford. The whole "Hey everyone, buy a Saturn or Saab because it is a GM" thing kind of back fired on them.

GM's been doing this "okay we admit we sucked, but we promise we'll do better now" schtick for about 10 years now. Hasn't happened yet, and I'm kinda tired of hearing it. Eight poorly-fed, poorly-focused brands has never made sense, so saying that it did just seems like we're being fed more excuses and BS.

I haven't, and still don't, love most GM products. Only a select few. With the exception of the Firebird / Trans Am, most of the cars I loved as a kid will go on, and more will be added. For example, the last Buick I liked was the Grand National in 86-87. Today, I really like the Enclave (the wife wants one, it's probably her next car), and the Lacrosse (the upcoming one...the older one represents the worst of GM).
One or two decent cars per brand is a killer. People's exposure to GM was hit or miss. If an import driver rented an Impala today, they would see the old GM. That person would not be inclined to give the brand a chance after that, meaning that something like the Malibu gets denied the chance to change that import intender's mind. (and yes I know the Impala outsells the Malibu, despite an inferior design).
There wasn't enough money to spread around and properly develop every nameplate. Now there will be.
I dont get it, they're talking about closing brands while showing hockey players or Ben Rothelsberger throwing a football. There's a lot of random imagery there. It looks like it was slapped together real quick by a film student. I like the end though when they pull the cover off the Buick.
I wouldn't say never. The brands made a lot of business sense when they ran like independent car companies. When GM consolidated and made them only marketing departments is when they lost their way. It's hard to argue against monopoly kind of market share in the 50-60's and say it didn't work at one time.
Autoextremist has been ripping the "apology" commericials that GM has been running the past few years, and I agree. They need to try ditch that theme, and focus on showing the great products that they have or will be launching soon. Show people the killer products you sell, not some sappy apology or make-good promise.

There's nothing like a great product to make people forget about the recent past (mistakes)!

'Gotta have' products! That'll be the best way to quell the dissent.
It was a funny clip, like why show a subway when you want to push cars? and what is up with the guy with a fake leg running a race?

1997 Malibu! "the car you knew America could build".... What a POS.
Our beloved 4th gen Camaro, awsome looks, next generation performance---but hard to live with, uncomfortable, and poor fit/finish.
Saturn L, flop!
New Saturns- Good idea and off to a great start, but discontinued, what confidence does that give buyers and those who took the risk and bought a saturn over a different model?
The lack of engineering and thought into anything Pontiac after 1998?
The crappy Buicks we have had up untill the new Lacross comes out (I'm not holding my breath on that model either)
I could go on and on, GM has some nice products, especially now- CTS, G8, Camaro, Corvette, Malibu, but they have a ways to go.

The G6 never had a chance, they raced them to the rental fleets so fast that they tanked!
The Taurus use to be the poster child of no resale, now it's not alone...
I have a friend who just bought his son one of the last Grand Prix with only 15K miles for 12K! It was a 25K car a little over a year ago! (an no, it wasnt a rental)
I dont see the new Malibu standing a chance, it's already in alot of fleets and with the G6 as a cousin- I see the resale tanking.
However, even the previous generation CTS still holds decient value, so their are some strong models.
