GMC Announces 2013 GMC Terrain Denali
301HP 3.6L replaces the 3.0L. I wonder if it will get better fuel economy than the 3.0L. |

The press release said similar economy. This might sound pretty cool at first, then you realize that the current SLT2 AWD Terrain already tips the scales slightly over 4000lbs.

What's the MPG?
The 4.2l inline 6 in the trailblazer had 300hp (10 years ago), and most of GM's V6's are now surpassing this number, so the big clincher has to be it's MPG. |

With the introduction of the Terrain Denali, GMC also announced a new 3.6-liter V-6 engine with direct injection and continuously variable valve timing will replace the current 3.0-liter V-6 engine in Terrain lineup for the 2013 model year. SAE certified at 301 horsepower (224 kW) and 272 lb.-ft. (369 Nm) of torque, this engine makes more power and torque, but is expected to deliver fuel economy equal to its predecessor. |

GM is having to offer incentives on the current V6s because they can't keep up with 4cyl demand. I would rather see a bump in mpg than hp.

Jeep Compass has stormed into this market after the butt-ugly design it used to have. It looks like buyers in this segment are really keen on a nice design. 2) MPG is king. Equinox has been selling so well ever since it released it's high EPA MPG numbers. People (in the U.S) want to keep a relatively large vehicle size, but can't afford SUVs and their costly gas mileage. Crossovers have really filled the void well for many buyers. Hopefully GM can hit big with a turbo 4... |

I don't think this engine is going to add any weight, unless they had to beef up a few components to handle the slight increase in torque (I suspect not much of that was required, if any).

In 2011, 87% of Equinox and Terrain sales were for the 4cyl. 301HP should help sell some more V6 models.

Torque is more important that horsepower in a CUV/SUV. Besides the DI-V6 can run on lower grade 87 octane, whereas the turbo Ecotec typically needs premium grade 91 octane. Quite frankly, I'd rather see a turbo diesel option. :p
2.0T = 260tq 3.6L = 272tq I thought GM made the tubro 4cyl. that go into non-performance vehicles run on 87 octane? I know the Cruze uses 87. Diesel option would be great. Think the 2.0L that is going into the 2013 Cruze would be enough power? |
