Wink 2008 Bullitt, and a new engine...

Ok - I'm playing devil's advocate today...

guionM posted a thread a while back titled "Signs of life & reason at Ford. 2008 shaping up already."
In it, he quoted," Ford will make the new Mustang Bullitt for 2008. This one comes from Mark Fields himself."

This was released to the press back on 14Sep06, and in it was a comment that there will be a new engine in the Bullitt package. This is pretty much concrete. Mark Fields made a statement to the media on 15Sep06 and his statement had guionM's line in it.

I was kind-of amazed that nobody expounded on guionM's comment about the Bullitt's return - especially one significant poster in this forum.
SO I'm gonna take the lead and poke/prod a little because you guys are all pretty astute on old car nostalgia as well as new car savvy.

So let's have a little fun before we spill the beans...
WHAT ENGINE do you car nuts think should go into the next Bullitt?
Where should it be placed in the lineup of Shelby and Ford offerings?
What if this engine were to appear in a GT350 after 1 year's limited edition of Bullitt cars?

Hmmm...

guionM - you got any beans to spill about this "new" motor?
Would y'all believe it's still a 4.6 derivative...

350HP-400HP

5.4L 4v or 3v? Maybe they will bring back the S/C 4.6L

"Only" 340-360hp.....Good grief!

A dead f-body, and still people are completely clueless on the issue of horsepower's importance. Some things never change.

Guessing it's probally going to be something familiar. Quicker than the GT, not as quick as the GT500.

I'd guess the blown 4.6 from the last Cobra.

WARNING: If that's the case, and the price is right, it's going to be hard not jumping ship.

Whatever happended to the 5.0 mod engine . A 400-425 hp 5 liter Bulllit has a nice ring to it slotted right in between the shelby and the GT

Re: 2008 Bullitt, and a new engine...

When the Bullitt came out, I thought it was one of the sharpest looking cars out there. The spoiler delete, those gorgeous 17" wheels, just all the cosmetic mods - interior and exterior, made it so cool.

I hope the next one is just as impressive.

The big question for me on engines is, will it be Mod motor or Hurricane/Boss?

Ford does so many special models, I expect them to have a "Limited Edition Special Model" model.

So far just a racing crate engine. Not sure what the issue with not putting it in production cars is... or if it's just another symptom of the sometimes bizzare current Ford management of the past few years.

For the unintiated, the "Cammer" has magnesium intake manifold, race version 4 valve heads, and larger bore cylinder sleeves. It's won numerous Grand Am races, and won in it's class in the 24 hours of Daytona.

Ford hinted at using the engine in a future Mustang, and then the whole subject just dropped from the radar screen. After all the races it's been in, it's certainly proved it's durability.

All I have to say is .

Besides, at one point, they said they'd never make another Dark Highland Green Mustang. Wonder how that's going to work out.

Anyway,

Come on Werm, your Bullitt will be 7 years old then.

You know you'll want another.

Awesome car, by the way!

Each one needs to come with a copy of Sheryl Crow's "Steve McQueen" for the cd player

From what I understand that is precisely the problem with the cammer motor, long term durabilty concerns which had to do with the big bore mod block, but it also could have been a cost factor as well, I dont know if these engines used the "spray bore" blocks or just used really hogged out bores to get to that 5.0 liters in any event IIRC Ford has a 4.6 DOHC motor on the books as engine reserved for future use in the mustang, how badass would it be if they had a DOHC engine with exhaust and intake cam phasers running some decent compression and a bit more cam (just day dreaming here)

Well brother money talks and bull**** walks and Ford is hurting and the Bullitt was a well recieved car and alot of people really wanted one and you get the picture, given the choice between becoming somebody's bitch like Ford by Hyundai or remaining Ford by Ford....
