Isn't the Canadian Dollar almost up to like 0.9 or something like that, so technically dealerships are ripping Canadians off?

Yes. Some cars, like compacts and minivans, are priced quite reasonably for Canadians, sometimes even cheaper than in the US. But anything with a hint of fun we get screwed on. For example a Vette is about $70k up here.

To be fair, when our dollar was worth 62 cents our car prices didn't go sky high to compensate so I suppose we're just looking at the other side of the coin now. Plus you can't expect automakers to adjust their prices every time a currency swings.

My beef is that whatever pricing philosophy the automakers want to use, it should be applied across the board. Pricing Uplanders at par but gouging us an extra 40% on a Vette is not right.

So how on earth do they add all of that stuff for less than $2k to the base price? ($24,090 for solstice and $25,995 for GXP)

Actually I was looking at Pontiacs website...

Goto http://www.pontiac.com
Click on Solstice
Look at Base MSRP

Just looks like a typo. I thought that number looked pretty high for a base Solstice. When you click "Build your Solstice" it says $20,490 Base MSRP.

I just did some searching and found this at Edmunds...

http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...leId=100706100

...The Sky Red Line will hit dealers this fall with a base price just over $27,000.

Don't dealerships now already charge more than 25k for a regular solstice with their "market adjustment" ?

Yeah the regular solstice starts at 20,490 - that's a typo on their website. A serious typo.

That's why I said '5500 difference'

Are there import taxes or something? Is the destination charge really high? There's got to be more reason that just straight markup for such a consistent bump in price.

Re: $25,995 Will Get You A Solstice GXP!

BTW, if you do the math in revers, a corvette that costs 67805$ in canada converts to 61190$US... Maybe that would put it into perspective for you US guys.

As for import fees I dont know, the camaro use to be built up here anda loaded drop top would be 50 000$... dont know what they went for in US though.
