Nice looking event. Are you enrolled at UBC? University British Columbia used to make some pretty good Formula SAE cars. Were there any at the event this year?

yea i am in the Formula SAE team, we have just started on the chassis yesterday

Very cool!
I was on Michigan State University's FSAE team for 1994 and 1995 and had some of my most fun with the UBC team. Formula SAE cars have changed quite a bit since those early days: We were experimenting with carbon fiber monococque construction, CVT transmissions, turbos, EFI, and unobtanium. Lots and lots of effort on trying to come up with some new whiz-bang or killer powertrain and not enough on cost containment or weight savings. I hope your car does well this year: I sometimes think that maybe I ought to re-create my own FSAE chassis just for fun, though this time I'd base it on something like a Hyabusa engine since I wouldn't be restricted by FSAE rules! I miss that MSU FSAE car, and I didn't get nearly enough seat time to satisfy my cravings. |
