Dr. Mudge,I have hard top.I have run Thunderhill many times already w/o a bar.
That civic I mentioned was really messed up,its a good thing he had a cage.
My main objective is I want to be protected if I by chance roll.I need to stop pressing my luck, and get one in.
Q; Will the RK Race coupe 4 point bar 1-3/4 by .120,12 gauge protect me at 100 mph roll?
Q;Or Do I need the Wolfe?6 point
I like the 4 point, but If I need the 6,then so be it.
Thanks Mudge

I doubt if anyone is going to tell you definitively what will or will not protect you in a roll. But if you went through some of the SCCA racing requirements, or any other similar class, you'd find lots of details about what type of cage was required for racing. It's not at all the 4 or 6-point bar you're thinking of, it's a real cage, with side bars, halo over your head, etc, etc. That said, most of us more casual open trackers don't have anything close to that. Personally I have a 6-point NHRA bar in my convertible, and don't plan on putting anything more in it...

I was in a Cobra vert that went on its roof at 50 MPH, it did not collapse. I went sideways at THill over 100 MPH into the dirt, lots of dirt inside the car, grass in the wheel/tire lip but no problems rolling over (THANKFULLY!).

If your really worried, you can also get arm retraints incase you pass out, no arms flapping outside the car.

I would assume most any roll bar should be protection for most scenarios, but I think thats one you have to make for yourself, THill itself is pretty save. If you rolled over your still not likely to have further impact afterwards since its pretty bare in the field.

Sears is probably the only one that is a little worriesome, just some parts you have to be carefull with, I still dont have the ***** to push 10/10 because of my own experience level.

Thunderhill is great, almost no place at all where you can hit something, if you go offroad (as I have) you just generally get dirty!

Both Sears and Laguna can be nasty tracks if you lose control. Many walls to hit, etc. That's kind of the price you pay when you build a track that allows for good spectator viewing - you can't have them all a mile away with binoculars...

Thanks for the compliment on the car. I'm not sure I remember you - did we park next to each other at the NASA event in May, and chat a fair bit, with your wife/kids?

I mostly run with the NCRC club (see sig), and we schedule a fair number of events. Next one is Sept 4th at Thunderhill, we're going to run it clockwise. Join us if you want!

Dave

I had the cage powdercoated locally, installed it in a day with a little help from a friend. It was easy to install, fit perfectly, no modifications at all.

Thanks,
Kurt
