Alrightly, got 2 tire Q's, best street tires and decent(cheap) radial autocross tires

I am planning on gettig a set a spare set of 16X8s...

I was flipping through a car ma and saw tirerack had Kuhmo 711s, 245/50/R16 for $56 What are your guy's opinoins on these tires? Will they be decent for street, occasional drag setup? (remeber I am only running low 15s maybe high 14s in a stock v6)

Any other suggestions?

Also anythoughts of a decent street radial autocross tire, looking to go cheap, maybe no more then $100 a tire, but cheaper is better. Planning on keeping the car in stock class, so has to be in specifications.

I happened to see 255s, think that would not be a good idea to run on 16X8s in an autocross? Or shoud I stick with 245s(I still need to reread the rules and see if I coudl even run 255s in stock)

Also what tire brand, I saw kuhmo ecsta 712s, were decently priced or shoudl I got with 711s as well.

It depends on how competitive your local FS class is. You may be able to get away with street tires. Heck, I won three events over the last 2 year on streets against guys on V700's. I was pretty much unstoppable on the V700's when I finally got them.

I did it on the cheap and bought used Kuhmos from road racers and other autocrossers with deeper pockets... Saved me a little money on tires, but cost more on mounting/dismounting and Formula V Traction Formula... It still was cheaper this way.

BTW - I have 4 16x8's for sale cheap and they are in very good condition.

Eric,

I have 4 245/50/16 Yokohama AVS ES100's I'll sell you for $200. They're great tires, I'm about to order another set myself. I'm only selling these because I got 17" rims and I don't need them anymore. They have about 7-8k on them and tons of tread left. Going off the reviews at Tirerack I'm sure they would be better than the 711's and probably the 712's as well.

Let me know.

I thought V700 victoracers took you out of stock and put you into prepared?

And jason, I will defintely keep those in mind... still working on getting a set of 16x8 Zr1 replicas with tires locally right now, and gonna use my stockers for racing.

No, Hoosier A3S03's (and now S04's) and V700's are allowed in stock classes.

This is true for the SCCA but I suspect he is talking about running with the Martin Sports Car Club. The MSCC doesn't allow R compound tires in the stock classes.

what do you guys think about

Ecsta 712s, 255/50/16 on a 16x8 chrome ZR1 replica for daily drivers, and occasional drag strip duty... I can get them for $399 shipped, but will check local on pricing as well.

Most 4th gen F-bodies run the 245 instead of the 255. Ive tried both, and think the 245's will give you better results.

They're a descent tire for the money and I have a set of the 245's on my car right now. I actually open tracked with them back in September and was pleasantly surprised how well they handled. They felt better than the GSC's I had run on before.

What's funny is that I ran them at the MSCC Gainesville autox in Novmeber and was sliding all over the course. I had a lug nut freeze up and couldn't put on the Victoracers. It's probably not a fair comparison because I had run a week earlier on the Victoracers and was just pushing the 712's too hard.
