Window tinting tips
 

Any one have any advice on tinting a curved window that requires cutting it in piecse, my gf insits i'll do a good job, but i've never had to cut tint.

no one has tinted their own windows?

If you're going to do your back glass that way, work from the bottom up. I slightly overlapped the strips so that when the windows were down, there wasn't anything to catch the wind.

I also cut my strips. I had an 8' table, taped the tint down w/ masking tape. Then I measured off a 6"-wide section. Using a metal straight-edge (to ensure a good edge) I used a sharp razor and cut the strips... that easy. Just make sure the tint is taped down well. I think I even layed masking tape across the straight edge to make sure it didn't move when I was cutting.

is there another way to do the back glass? this may sound stupid, but are the strips horizontal or vertical?

You can also get a pre-cut sheet, made to fit the back glass. I don't know of a specific place to purchase that, though. The problem w/ doing the back in one sheet is that a flat piece of tint does not like wrapping around a curved surface. Try putting a piece of paper around a baseball.:)

I'd rather not do the job, g/f will waste 400 bucks on a purse and go cheap on this. typical. Thanks for teh advice

I just remembered. I've seen a 'curved glass kit' in stores lately. It's just a box of pre-cut strips. That might be the way to go for you. Good luck. ;)

I tried to tint my windows on my GSR, but that was a mistake. It's not that its hard at all, but there really is an art to it that only comes with experience. I took it to a shop and it is still perfect today with no peeling or bubbles 5 years later. Unless you have the time or patience to do it right I would just pay for it so you don't end up :mad:

I gave up on it the other day, i don't have the touch to do it. She can pay to have it done.
