Want to update interior
 

Hey all, got an '02 Z28.

So, to put it simply, I want to re-do the interior of this car. It's out of date, and in some particular areas, the geometry feels wrong and uncomfortable. So, I'd like to basically rip it all out, and come up with something custom.

I did have a couple of questions. Number one, I would like to keep both airbags. As much as I hate the airbag in the OEM steering wheels, and to be able to move the passenger airbag around, the lack of safety (or the risk of a non-stock one blowing up in my face while driving) has me fearful of modding it. But my question is is does anyone know of a place that makes aftermarket covers for them? I know they've made them for the C5 and C6, but never heard of it for the Camaro.

Two, for those of you who have had the dash out of the car, how much space do I have behind it? I did want to re-route some of the HVAC tubes and the like, and I just want to know (since this dash goes on for miles) how much space I realistically have before I run into the firewall.

I know this project will be a tedious, tooth-grinding descent into madness, but hey, no pain no gain right?

I have no useful information to contribute, but I'm curious about how this goes for you and I'm hoping you'll post updates (with pictures!) as you make progress.

I certainly will. The project is a long way off, as some of the ideas I have bouncing around are rather expensive, and then there's still the fact that the car is my DD at the moment. I may have to see about finding a donor car to mock it up on before moving it to mine.

I was planning on making myself a new dash but it doesnt seem like ill have time to take on a job that big for MY car but I was just thinking of an idea where the center console comes all the way up the sides of the radio bezel to a point or maybe just the right side of the bezel so it kinda looks like the new c7 dash and console it would look more like a cockpit on the drivers side. That would be alot easier, faster and would really change the look of the entire interior I dont know just a thought but once I get started on it Ill post pics
