ride height question

ok, so i just shelled out lots of mullah to get all around corvette 18's on my z28...but now, i dont know how much to drop it.

the height of the corvette tires is 1 inch taller than my stock z28 tires. so, how much do i have to drop the car to not only get rid of the extra inch that i've added on to my ride height, but to decrease it even more! i'm trying to decrease the space between the top of the tire and the lip of the car (not sure what the name for this area is...yeah, yeah, i know, i'm a loser for not knowing it), to the minimum without scraping.

thanks in advance

shokor

It would only be 1" taller if you got the wrong profile. You should have gotten X/35/18. This would prevent you from needing to recalibrate your speedo. If you got the wrong size, your speedo might not be as accurate. If you got the above sizes, you shouldn't have problems lowering 1"-1.5". ;) Good luck!

the tires on it are as follows

front 275/40/18
rear 295/35/18 i put them next to my stock tires and they looked 1 inch taller.

If you DON'T plan on getting a bodykit, then lower it 2 - 2.5 inches

2-2.5? dont u think that's a bit drastic? my brother has a lowered prelude and that d*mn thing pisses me off, because everywhere i go, it scrapes!!! and also, i'm concerned about scraping my high-dollar run-flats! :D

i want the wheel well to be minimized, but it should NOT hinder convenience when it comes to upward slopes. i was thinkin of getting some springs that are 1.5 :) u think that would do it?

p.s. my hair turned gray by the time ur page 2 loaded up :p
and i have dsl!! :)

Just out of curiousty (SP?) what's the width of your rim? 18x?
I'm in the market for a set of Z06's and i don't know what size will fit. I've already lowered my car 2" with a body kit and i've never bottomed it out. You just have to take some things a little slower. I think the look of a lowered car make's them look more aggresive.
Thanks

you're right about the aggressive part, but i'm just so fed up with my brother's prelude that i do NOT wanna hear that gut-wrenching scrape anymore.

the rims are 18x9.5

are the tires you have on now worn out? do you run low PSI in them? alot of things could explain the 1" difference in height...when you bolt the new ones up i'm sure the weight of the car will change them a bit too...those should be close to the right sizes.

http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

that is good for finding out the overall diameter and how far your speedo will be off, just put your old tire sizes in as well as the new ones :)

for lowering, you can get the eibach pro kit or sportline kit...the prokit drops around 1.5" i believe and the sportlines around 1.8-2"....it will really help the apperance of your vehicle :)

hope i helped

yeah, the tires are worn out...and the psi are different too...so yeah, i doubt there's a signifcant difference. i ran the tire size calculations, and the program said that my speedo would only be off by 2%...which doesnt mean much.

i bought some eibach pro kit springs from a guy yesterday...they'll lower it 1.5...i wanted the wheel well gap gone, but so much to the point that it would be annoying when i'm going over dips.

thanks for your help,

shokor
