Remote trunk release problem.

Remote trunk release problem.
I would like to be able to use the remote hatch release. Is it located in the hatch or the body? What procedure should I follow to attempt its repair? The remote door locks work.

Re: Remote trunk release problem.
The remote sends the signal (doors or hatch) to the body control module (BCM) under the dash. The BCM activates the device that locks/unlocks the doors, and releases the hatch. The BCM can be scanned to see if it is receiving the signal from the remote. There is no separate receiver for the door/hatch remote function. Could be a faulty button on the remote, a fault in the BCM or a wiring problem.
Shoebox has the BCM wiring diagram for the 96:

Does the hatch release when you push the button on the dash?

Re: Remote trunk release problem.
Injuneer: Thanks for the reply. Yes, the hatch does release when the glove box button is pressed. I thought I had the door locks working properly after I did the little "turn the ignition key three times and punch the fob button to cycle the locks" trick. The door locks performed well. However, the next day they were back to locking but not unlocking. The hatch has not worked for several years.
