OEM 97 Black SS Hood

Finally found one. Mint condition, was never used, just stored. Had it shipped from Arizona. Couldn't wait to get it...... then UPS got there dick beaters on it and looked at the fragile sign as a challenge. Burned a half day of work, drove to the distribution center to get it and it was trashed. Looks like they took a ball bat to the box. I have had a knot in my stomach all day. Now I have to wait to see if they will pay out the insurance, which is hardly nothing compared to what this was worth to me. It was shipped in an OEM GM hood box to boot.

That sucks- hopefully they will work on it with you- but even the $$ amount won't reflect the true value of it IMO...

Re: OEM 97 Black SS Hood

Talked with UPS today. They are saying since it is a 1997 ss hood that it is used and is not worth what it was insured for ($900). I explained to them that it is rare in this condition and is worth a lot more than that. They said they would need to review it. I have let the seller know but I think ultimately he is going to get screwed on this one as I bought it off ebay and paid for it with paypal.

Re: OEM 97 Black SS Hood

not to be a dick, but did u honestly think a fiberglass hood in the original box could be shipped via UPS!?

Re: OEM 97 Black SS Hood

All they will look at is "Hood from 1997 Camaro"..not take into consideration how rare they are to find anymore. In there minds its just like any other hood from a 14-15 yr old car- dime a dozen.

Keep after them and hopefully you will get some resolve.

Re: OEM 97 Black SS Hood

i thought it was as simple as "i paid for insurance for a $900 item...so since its damaged you owe me $900"...: just not fair

Re: OEM 97 Black SS Hood

Absolutely do not let up until you receive $900 from UPS. IMHO that is not enough to replace a factory SS hood. There is no excuse for the damage. My hood was shipped via truck freight and there was not a scratch on it.

If the guys over at SLP were not such jerks you might even request a quote on that hood and use that to support your claim to UPS. In my limited dealing with SLP they didn’t seem interested in making a sale, supporting their product, or being nice. I also haven’t seen that hood on their site for quite some time.

Best of luck

Re: OEM 97 Black SS Hood

I agree also. But from what i gathered from ups/fedex/usps just from shipping and insuring items sold on ebay if you do not have or cannot produce and "original receipt" nor or the orignal owner for that matter they will not honor most insurance claims. I think it is bull but thats how they cover themselves.... good luck keep us posted on what happens
