Odd question about white face gauges
I'm looking for something particular. I want to have blue backlight gauges, but retain the stock lettering. I want to lighten up the background to a charcoal gray, or even a mute silver. Is there a place that sells different colors of gauge backgrounds, or would this have to be custom made? If custom made.. how could this possibly be achieved?

I'm not aware of any company making aftermarket making a whole custom dash for this. However I know you can replace the bulbs to whatever color you like such as this person did in the pic below. There are also several people who have done this and multiple threads on it if you try the search. Here's just one of many> https://www.camaroz28.com/forums/sho...highlight=dash
http://i29.tinypic.com/29fqf06.jpg As for the guages, there are several different options as well beyond just the white. Here's a couple pics of one style I considered for a while http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...68_38_full.jpg http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...68_39_full.jpg Or you can just leave the stock guages in and go with a bezel like I did to contrast the stock dash http://i30.tinypic.com/ftlkqr.jpg Again, theres a TON of info on all this stuff if you try a search on it on the Appearance section. |
I've gone through the appearance section alot.. I'm well versed on the styles, so I've pretty much decided all or nothing (being the exact charcoal / silver or nothing).. I guess I was hoping there happened to be one out there. Oh well.

You might check out the aluminum gauges. They have the same blue film on them that lights up green with factory bulbs. I have their white face gauges and they're awesome. I wanted to find white gauges that looked like stock. |
I know exactly what you are talking about. I have been trying to make some grey faced gauges for a while now but I can never get anywhere on the subject on here. I have everything on my computer but I cannot find a material to print them on that is translucent and would look any good. I have kind of given up but if you do find anything out, let me know.

Those aluminum gauges look just like white face.. I don't see a difference. Have you seen any pics of them in-car?
|
Most silver faced gages do mimick white face gauges until you get right on top of them and can see they're actually silver.

Here is a link to the Nu Image Platinum Series gages I have. They are a darker silver than the pic shows.Had mine almost two years and still haven't put them in :D.The tint for the lights is a medium blue color.

most silver gauges never look that way in the pictures. Macewens look almost white in the pictures, its all about lighting.
|
Ya,a medium silver color.

I'll probably just end up blue LEDing the gauge up. As much as I like white face gauges, I fear I've done too much in the interior already. Thanks for the help, guys.

Just to give you guys an update: I found what I was looking for on whitegauges.net. I emailed the guy and he sent me "BMW gray".. which is a pretty good looking charcoal gray. I also got blue LEDs for the lighting. I'll take pics tomorrow, since it was dark and rainy when I finished installing them.
