Re: LED headlights?

you probably mean LED taillights. LED HEADlights have only been incorporated into concept vehicles. LED taillight bulbs are available in many places online, just do a search at the top of this page.

Re: LED headlights?

LED headlights are not commercially available at all. The first production car to have them is the new 7-series BMW, and those are only day-time running lights. The First scheduled production car with LED headlights is going to be about the '07-'08 Model year.

The Brightness levels are there, but there are other technical issues that they are working for.

I work with High-Power LEDs and optics, I'm an Aircraft Lighting Systems Engineer. And may soon swith jobs to be a techinical rep for the leading MFG/Distributor of High-Power LEDs (Lumileds/Future); so I know the insides and outsides of LEDs and Lighting.

**Off topic but interesting info**

The largest issue with LEDs and light output is 2 things, getting the light out of the "chip" and getting rid of the heat generated. If you know anything about light, a cube is VERY inefficient at letting light out; the losses are about 80-90%; thus one area that everyone is working on with high-power LEDs is just getting the light out of the chip. The other is getting rid of the heat; Your typical Light Bulb gets rid of most of it's heat through IR radiation; thus it feels warm when you put your hands close and radiates heat ******ds. LEDs being a very narrow spectrum of light output do not emit much if anything in the IR spectrum; thus all the heat has to be conducted away into heatsinks or some framing. These are the 2 main challenges facing LED lighting.
