How can you tell a TRUE 96/97 SS hood from aftermarket??
I'm looking into a used SS hood and am not sure how to tell a TRUE SS hood from aftermarket. Under hood finish???? any visible stampings, markings, or parts numbers?? mounting points for the airbox??? ANY help greatly appreciated especially pictures

I think genuine SS hoods have some sort of stamping in it, on the underside of the hood (like the vin# or something). I may be wrong though:rolleyes:.

all the literature I read says they are "composite".... anyone know what that is?? and how it is different from fiberglass??

I looked mine over pretty close and found no stampings or markings that would set it apart from something else. Here are some pics of the underside of a real SS hood. Granted, just because a different hood looks exactly like it doesn't mean it is a true SS hood BUT, if the other hood is different then it definitely is not a real SS hood :D

Thanks Brent! It really doesn't look very different from stock. I ought to be apble to tell the difference over a fiberglass aftermarker version now.

im preety sure my has a marking on it
a lil gm thing.... ill double check tho |
Mine has a little GM sticker on the underside of the hood... mines still new though.. hasnt been painted or anything..

yup it has a thing
toward windshield in under hood scoop patent number made in canada and GM but mines 98 so it could be different |
Thanks, I'll be on the lookout for a possible sticker too. This hood's been repainted so it may be covered/removed like Brent's
