How can i make a cover for my amps and subs

I saw a couple time on cardomain that guys were making covers for their sound systems. They were made out of wood covered the entire back area of car. Most of them were wrapped in leather and had some sort of cool design on them like the firebird logo or the camaro lettering. Does anyone know what i'm talking about? If so does anybody know how to make this or knows a website?

Sounds like you aleady know how...it's mostly wood...then wrapped in vinyl or carpet...that's pretty much it. You just have to have a tool to cut the wood and I guess a staple gun. If you want more detail...you may want to try asking in the car audio forum.

1) electric saw
2) jig saw
3)Go to home depo and buy some fiber board about 12 dollars
4) start designing
5) make it

All these people that make and sell boxes try to make it seem really hard but if you take the time to think it out anyone can do it

EDIT: oh yea you can get the carpet at home depot too
Vinyl I don't no where to get

Well - AW had it pretty close - but I would choose a couple of different items...

Definately a Jig Saw, possibly a Skill Saw, definately a palm sander - some cardboard and then your choice of wood (plywood, fiberboard, etc...) and covering material and some 3M adhesive.

Here's how I would go about it...

Take the card board and trace out your template - make it fit exactly how you want the wood to fit. (Note - if you can get a big piece large enough to cover all you are wanting to cover with the wood, that would help. Try Lowes, Home Depot, etc. to see if they have some off of like a washer, dryer, refrigerator, etc.)

Basically then just trace cut that template out of the wood. That's where the palm sander will help you out - where there's a tight fit - sand it down a little. REMEMBER - you can very easily take more away - but it is hard to add it back.

Get everything where you want it though, and then cover it. The tough part though, is anchoring it down. I am not quite sure how I would do that, I suppose I would just figure that out when I got there. Good luck - post pics!

I just use a Dremel with the router attachment. It's cheap and it gets the job done. To be honest with you....I actually used that to cut the gills on my camaro. No lie. Stuck the dremel router bit on there and started cutting. I got some pics in my sig of the actual cutting I think...page 2 or 3 or something. You can get some really pro looking quality from something like this...and it cost me what...70 bucks?! And I don't have to return it like I would a rental.
