Dash cap? anyone ever tried
Well my upper dash pad is cracked, and I really don't want to shell out 240 bucks for a new one (the damn things were only like $~125 a few years ago when I got one for my previous Camaro). I came across this on ebay and wondered if anyone has ever tried this or knows if its worth buying.
Apparently this is a piece of plastic that is shaped the same, and it lays over you broken/cracked dash in the car. Seems a little different. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/93-94...Q5fAccessories |
I would shell out the extra $100 and buy a new dash, not a huge fan of interior "overlays" they don't hold up too well. Can you find one at a local junkyard? Craigslist?

I hate sellers with absolutely god awful photos of their products. That one hardly looks like a photo. It looks like something taken with a cell phone camera and then heavily photoshopped.
Who knows if this is a good product or not? |
I made my own cover with black automotive carpet.
It was not easy and If I had the money to spend I would get the cover for just the upper dash pad. I have a web page to a person that makes them the are 40 bucks. As soon as I can get the web page to work I will leave the link. I used some epoxy and some carbon fiber on the bottom of the dash to glue it back together but you can use some fiberglass cloth. Use some blue painters tape on the topside so you don't bleed through. Your going to have to prop up the ends to get the right Contour so it goes together right. That's the easy part cutting the carpet out was the worst that's why I recommend you by the cover. Here is my dash after. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2676/...693098_o_d.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3448/...b328a5_o_d.jpg http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2551/...b8e6f2_o_d.jpg http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2471/...2e7e39_o_d.jpg Here is his Ebay link. http://shop.ebay.com/racinfastnow/m....1&_from=&_ipg= |

I've never bought anything off ebay that didn't look like the photo was taken in somebody's kitchen, garage, driveway, bedroom, etc. All of the ones without personal pictures of the items are too sketchy.
Ex: Who the heck is going to buy an iPod off ebay from somebody who ripped a pic off of amazon and has 12 feedback? Not me. I'll buy the one of some fat dude holding the thing in his hand with a pile of dirty laundry in the background (or whatever) so I know it's a real item. |
One of the guys on our local F-body mailing list has messed with them, he didnt have any thing bad to say about them.

Fix it and wrap it in vinyl? 2 yard of vinyl, some adhesive, and plastic repair. $60 worth of materials and you are set and it looks better than new.
