Cutting out metal bracing under the stock hood?

to save weight. anybody tried this? I would make the front pin on and keep the rear hinges i just wonder if it would deform on the highway - may be a free way to loose some weight near the nose.

I don't think that's a good idea. That's kind of a redneck thing to do, because the hood could fly up, hit the windshield, and kill ya. Better to buy a similar hood from a company you or your family can sue if that happens!

In my opinoin, the weight you will subtract will not be worth the time and effort to cut everything out. Also it will make everything flimsy as hell. Had a friend try this on a honda, at highway speeds it was like riding in an aluminum can. It will take your sturdy hood and make it into an unsuported piece of sheet metal.

The unsupported piece of sheet metal is indeed correct. the bracing on the bottom of it is what basically gives the thing it's shape. The actual metal is pretty flimsy. Also you will not get enough weight out of it to matter at all.

i weighed a stock 95 camaro hood the other day 46# with insulation.
the insulation weighed 2#. just don't think its worth cutting out maybe 4 to 5 #

some of the fiberglass hoods are 25 and less
