Charcoal suede dash panel..PICS INSIDE
...ok so its micro fiber faux suede.:o
I had a LS1 dash panel that had the usual crack in the middle and some extra time this weekend so I busted out a good epoxy and got to mixing.I filled the crack on top with resin and used some chopped carbon strands soaked in resin to reinforce the bottom. I also did an airbag cover and filled the words "AIR BAG" on top,I always hated that. After the epoxy started to set I sanded the tops smooth,Then I got to work covering the dash. The color is spot on the factory charcoal dash panel.I covered the defrost vents..come on..I live in Texas:D.Maybe the warm air will still pass through,we will see. I will get some better pics when I install it ...for now cell pics https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...fakesuede2.jpg https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v...fakesuede1.jpg |
That's sweet! Doing my interior panels all in dash has been something I've always wanted to do. At least now I know it's possible to do the dash. My only concern is the maintenance of it all.
Good job and look forward to seeing the final result! |
My dash currently has a 2mm layer of dust on it as a result of neglect - trying to balance studies and work. Would you be giving the dash a glossy look by applying a liquid or leaving it matt finish?
I'll be cleaning it, since I'm free now so I'm gonna give full attention to my Z. |
What sort of glue did you use to attach the suede?
|
I covered mine in vinyl. I could have done it in suede or something along those lines but vinyl is much easier to clean. That looks good though. Just keep your windows up so dirt doesn't get in that much. :p

I think Im going to do my Lt1 dash the same way.... I will get some more pics of it installed...I just got done |
I was thinking of doing me dash in leather, but was worried it would be too thick. I'm glad to know it's been done. Pics?
|
Not the greatest pics but here ya go:
http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...Picture001.jpg http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...Picture004.jpg My solution for the vent fins ^^^ Yeah, I screwed up and forgot to tuck the edges before I 'glassed the vent mesh onto it so that looks like crap. :shame: Don't be an over-anxious idiot like me and it'll look better. :p |
That would have looked pretty decent if you painted the mesh to match.
|
dash installed..... having the windshield out made it too easy

That looks really cool. It's too bad every part of the dash isn't like that though.
Where did you buy the fabric if you don't mind me asking? And how much did it cost? |

And how much did it cost? 3911 Woodbury Dr Austin, TX 78704 (512) 326-9968 I want to do the whole dash but Im to lazy to go pulling it all out...but I know it would look good. The micro fiber fabric was $30 per yard.I got 1.5 yards and so far its enough to cover 2 dash panles and pass side airbag cover and a console lid.I still have more then half a can of spray glue left so one can will get the job done easy.I have less then $60 in it.For one car I would get 1 yard and one can of 3M glue. |

I wonder if that's the going rate from discount suppliers, or if that's a high markup. |
