Cash for Clunkers destroyed a lot of 3rd and 4th gen parts!

According to Hot Rod Magazine, thanks to Cash for Clunkers, there were...
1,007 1986-2002 Camaros sent to the crusher...
and...
571 1986-2002 Firebirds and Trans Ams sent to the crusher...

Just think about all those parts that are so hard to find now that got destroyed! The factory front bumpers and front fenders alone are enough to make me sad.

Arrgghh... I hate this subject I had a crazy rant at another board about this...

Anyway, some numbers (from HotRod mag):

571- Pontiac T/As and 'Birds, including 1-20th Anniversery car

131- Corvettes

506- 94-96 Caprices

1007- Camaros

908- 94-96 Buick Roadmasters

209- El Caminos

3060- Ford Thunderchickens

107- Ford SHOs

1611- Ford Mustangs

24- Ford Lightnings

3842- Ford Crown Vics & LTDs

and...

1- Buick Grand National GNX

And, this program cost us, the taxpayers, $24,000 a car

It hurt so much more than it helped Friggin' crazy...

The video was terrible

To be honest I never put much thought into what people were putting in for cash for clunkers. In my head I always thought it was gonna be trucks, vans, and suv's that kept breaking down and were regularly causing people to get out, kick it and exclaim "PIECE OF S***!" But I just never thought people would offer up Camaros, Firebirds and Corvettes to the project.

What is WRONG with people?

And why the hell would they create a liquid designed to kill an engine permanently?

WHY HAST THOU FORSAKEN YOUR CAMARO?!?

These cars went to junk yards before being crushed. I bet every last part of value was stripped off of them before they were crushed. I know several that went to junk yards around here. Within a matter of a couple days the interiors were gutted and the engine/trans were out. Anyone who regularly visits junk yards will tell you Fbodys don't last long.

Honestly, how many 3rd gens are worth more then $4500 in this day and age? Most are rusted out **** boxes.

I hope I can find some good front fenders and front bumper cover for my '93 when I'm ready to rebuild it (again.) New OEM parts are outrageously overpriced (at least last time I checked), and Chinese knock-off parts are just horrible quality.

Cash for clunkers was a waste of money. Doesnt make sense why they put a liquid in the engine to destroy it.

what is this liquid that ruins engines, from what my brother in law told me that works at a chevy dealer that the local j-yard bought all there cash for clunkers cars and stripped them , but if say it had a bad motor they had to crush the whole motor instead of pulling parts off of it , makes me wanna cry , how could anyone crush a lt4 and lt1 motor

The dealership near me my friend works at doesnt use that liquid stuff they drain the engine, and tranny oil and the rear end and just run the car till it seizes up...what a shame.

Also who the hell would give them a Grand National???

That vid was tough to watch. The most annoying thing was the pleasure those guys got from destroying a nice car and then talking about how fast it died like it was weak.
