can't get this tint and glue off plz help!
 

my tint started to bubble up on the back window so I desided to replace it myself. Well then I found out for some reason there are two layers of tint on my back window!!! this has been a real pain in the a$$ w/ those defroster lines and that glue is really stuck on there. Does anyone have experiance w/ this or any tips would be greatly appreciative. I hope my rear defroster still works I had to use a box cutter blade to get the tint off and took some of the lines w/ it.

hyper where can I get a defroster line repair kit? and how do you use it? I've never heard of that before??

any auto parts store should have them, its little pieces of the metal lines with a special glue to repair the broken line, cost like 5 bux at an advance auto or napa store... just ask someone in the store for a rear defroster line repair kit..

Yeah you have ruined you defroster most likely. I learned a little trick from a local guy here that tints windows...
What he does is takes and sprays ammonia on the back glass and covers/tapes a black plastic bag(s) over the window. Then lets it sit outside in the sun(it has to be warm out to work) for a while. The he pulls off the bag and the tint comes off along with the majority of the glue(in one piece). Never tried it myself but I have seen it work.

When I pulled mine to replace it, It just peeled it off. The glue residue left in a few spots, mainly over the lines. I just bought adhesive remover from the local Auto parts store. Sprayed it on and let it sit for like 10-15 min. Most of it just wiped off with a rag after that I did it again on the tough spots. Anything that was still left I just peeled away with my fingernail. Worked well for me and my defroster works fine.

yeah my first layer of tint came off pertty easy but the second, woah!

My best friend used to tint, here's what he'd do. During bright sunshine he would take a black garbage bag or two if needed and cut them open to make them as large as possible. Then spray water on the current tint and "stick" the bags to the old tint and sit back and wait. The sun heats up the water (boils it) and losens up the glue and the old tint comes right off. If I hadn't seen it done myself I wouldn't believe it but it works. You still may need to clean some of the glue left behind but your defrost strips should be O.K. Of course if you live in the frozen tundra you might want to wait until the big thaw called summer arrives. This is not an issue in New Orleans.

I bought a used white Monte Carlo SS several years ago and it had both side windows and the rear glass as well as a big tinted windshied banner ALL double tinted. It took me ALL DAY to get it off. and all cleaned up. I just used a blow drier to loosen the glue and it pealed off fairly easily in big sheets. I used WD-40 and paper towels to get the remaining glue off and back to clear glass.
