Anyone like cowl hoods anymore
I am deciding on a new hood, and of course the SS, and Ultra Z are great appearance wise, but i have major clearance issues with the hosing from my TNT Nitrous kit...and i thought maybe a cowl hood would give me that extra clearance i need and yet still give the car different, menacing look....anybody with cowl hoods, post up pics and feedback on them. Thanks.

Just do ya know...the SS hood for the LS1 offers quite a bit of clearance under there...just how much, I don't know...but it's not bad at'tall. :D

I have a cowl hood on mine right now...there are a couple of pics on my site which is in my sig and here are a couple more:

I vote for the cowl. I have a pic of my 94 Camaro with one at home. I'll try to post tonight.

I do like the looks of the cowl hood, but I would feel funny running something on my car that has no function other than looks (clearance for engine mods is one use though). As we all know our windshields slope back too much to work with the cowl for an induction basis. I opted to go with an ss hood since I could add an air box to keep my conscience satisfied ($ being the only factor holding me back right now on the box). I feel sport compacts are the biggest guilt trips out there :D
On the other hand I am getting ready to install a ZR28 spoiler right now (getting painted this week) But it is supposed to be functional ;) |
cowl hoods look great to a certain extent. when you start to get up into the 4 in and up hoods then they just become a mod that should be on drag car and they don't reall look that good.

ill vote for the cowl
i really like brents |
the cowl hood looks good on these cars, only if there is alot of things changed on it, ie rims, light covers, and such, thats the only way i would do it, it dosent seem to look right if thats the only thing you have done to it

I'll be putting a cowl on my 4th gen :D

thanx for all the replies, i checked pricing, and omg...they are so much cheaper than SS Style or Ultra Z....and actually some of them look pretty damn mean.....CeeBee94Z, is yours a 4" cowl? where'd u get it and for how much???
Brent, what did u pay for your VFN and how big is the cowl on it? i thought of this today, may be a stupid question, but when u wash the car, do u run a greater risk of getting water down in the engine bay with a cowl hood compared to a stocker..... and on most cowl hoods, the underside of the hood does have the cowl indented into it, not a flat underside w/ piece blocking where the cowl is (making any sense to neone??) |

Thanks guys :)
I paid $208 for my hood during a group purchase I organized about 5 years ago or so. I think 20 of us got them. Don't expect to get it for that though because I heard they kinda messed up on the price a little but honored it anyway. :D I don't notice water getting in there really anymore than the stock hood. It's a 2.5" cowl hood. |
i love mine :)
